Default Lower Ball Joints Question

I got a quote of $580 to replace the lower ball joints and realign the car. Anyone think this price is out of line? Any idea of the labor hours involved? I did a search and I believe the parts can be had fron Carson for about $80 each. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Carmen

changing a lower ball joint takes about 20 mins per side its a DIY if you have the right tools.. autozone i found has the right tierod puller that will not touch nor damage the boots and they also have the right balljoint/pitman arm puller to pop these in seconds..if you are not somewhat handy try and avoid stealership and go to any trusted private mech and fyi you really dont need a new alignment after balljoint replacement , you only need that when they beat up the tierod boot req them to be changed

I had my right one on my 98 replaced for $168 out the door for parts and labor. So X2 should only be $336. I'd say they're trying to take you for a ride. No alignment needed.

Default Got Another quote

Thanks for the replies.
The first quote was from a Toyota Stealership, I use them for oil changes because they stock the correct filter and it's only $24. I have used them for alignments, trans fuluid changes and other small items because its convienient. This time I went in for an oil change and State inspection, I knew I had just installed new pads all around and rotors in the front so it should pass inspection. I just noticed this clunking noise in the front going over bumps and I figured I would have them check it out for me. I was stunned when they gave me the price. I have since got another price of $290 out the door for the ball joints (using OEM parts) and $25 for the inspection and told me I didn't need an alignment but he would adjust the camber if needed for free. He told me the ball joints were $95 each. What a bunch of creeps. Now they get none of my business on my Lexus or 4Runner.

Thanks Again,
Carmen
