Default How many GS's had Master Cylinder problems?

I'm curious, because my dealer's service rep said he never saw a failed master cylinder on a GS before? I have read on CL that it's happened to some already. How many?

Other than a disappointing failed part I stil love my GS3!!!

Thanks for any feedback.

I believe it is. Several CL members got it replaced when their cars were out of bumper-to-bumper warranty.

It was covered under either the power train warranty or certified pre-owned warranty.
If I had to pay out of pocket, it would have been a mighty hefty price tag. Over $1500!!

AMEN to that, That's why when it happened I didn't even flinch, cause I was confident they would pick up the tab, w/ no hassle and an IS300 rental to boot! Life is good in Lexusland!

How do you know when yours is about to go out?

I bought my 99 GS4 at 30k miles and it now has 53k miles. Ever since day one my GS4 has made a strange mechanical noise that sounds like a pump pressurizing something and then at the end it makes a 'tapping' noise... it only does it every so often when I apply the brakes, and always when I first start the car up in the morning.

Is something losing pressure or what?

If the sound is coming from the steering wheel area, that is what I had. But you'll really know when your VSC, VSC OFF, ABS and E-BRAKE light come on simultaneously with a high pitched audible sound that will NOT stop.

I know of two people in the UK who have had to replace the master cylinder. 2001 models onwards have a newer design and I haven't heard of a problem with one of those.
