Default Another Supra Brake Upgrade Thread w/ PIC

After some searching, I decided to go with the Supra upgrade vs many of the other fine upgrades available. Primary reasons are: 1) Direct Bolt-on, 2) Wide variety and availability of pads, 3) Durability, 4) Proven performance, and 5) Price , as the coilovers, rims, grill, and RMM blower has/will add up.

Reman Supra TT calipers cost me $55.00 a piece! New seals, pistons, dust shields, and hardware.
New cross drilled/slotted rotors-$50.00 each. Brembos not available. 2 weeks backordered. Oh well.
Stainless steel lines-$105.00 for a 4 pc set.
Hawk HPS pads-$72.00-Had orderd Porterfield pads but it was back ordered. From Tirerack.
-------------------------------------------------------

TOTAL PRICE-$387.00 -Keep in mind I do get a discount on items, but it is a good reference.

Here are some pics.

Process:
Calipers were sanded down for a smooth surface as the stock calipers have a rough surface.
4 coats of VHT caliper paint, 2 coats of Hi-Temp clear. Baked at 350 degrees at 30 minute intervals 3 times for chemical tolerance.

the vht paint looks great , how would you compare it to say the high temp engine paint to do the calipers

Thanks. Yes ,the calipers were $55.00 each.
I got them from a large (largest?) parts supplier in So Ca which requires a resale. They didn't charge me the standard core of $50.00 each because I did not have a core and it was for my car. Normal cost on these would be $74.00 each +$50.00 core for a total of $248.00 for both calipers. Still less than junkyards.

The VHT is supposed to resist chipping better than Hi Temp Engine paint. It also protects up to 900 degress whereas most engine paint protects up to 500 with a few exceptions that go to 1000.

Pearl,

Where did you find Brembo rotors for $75 each. As my understanding, there's no Brembo rotors available for 93-98 SupraTT. I've been searching for Brembo x-drilled/slotted rotors for quite some times, you're the first person found it. Can you post some pics?

Thanks,

They are Brembos that have been drilled and slotted.
Rotorworks has 2 options:
User end prices:
Brembo's-160.00 for a pair of fronts-left/right specific
Economy-100.00 for a pair of fronts-left/right specific

Lee, what wheels are you running now? Have you checked them for clearance problems?

Default Never Heard of them

Check the link below. I never heard of these. But when I checked them out , I was impressed with the quality. The 18x8.5's are 25.5 lbs compared to the stock GS 17 rims at 25.0. The 9.5's are a tad more though I did not weigh them. They are 1 piece wheels that are probably knockoffs so I will probably get banned for posting these here. Made by SSI Design. Not to be confused with SSI that makes domestic wheels. This is the only wheel they put out. I saw them on a Supra TT and they looked very nice, plus they fit over the calipers with no problem.

Should have pics on Saturday of the brakes and wheels on the GS. The wheels are at the bling bling shop getting chromed. I would like to install a set of Bilstein PSS before then. Waiting for some responses.

Could you let us know where you got the calipers for $74 each? That's alot less than what I can find them for. Thanks.

those SSI's look almost exactly like the DAZZ Matiz. Nice looking wheels. I also have the Supra TT brakes. How much did the overhaul cost, and did you do the overhaul yourself? I am wanting to redo the seals on my brakes, no problems with them whatsoever, just maintenance stuff.

thanks
ricky

The calipers came with new seals, dust boots, and new pistons all installed already including all hardware suchs as plate and pins. If your looking to overhaul your calipers, new seal kits only run 20.00 at Autozone,Kragen,Checkers,Shucks.

Lee,

Are these the rotors you got? These are not Brembo rotors.
