Default From Alabama to Texas! Help!

i am taking a trip to Sugarland, TX (Sept 2 to the Sept 7) i was wondering what the roads look like on the way there. i had a friend told me that I-10 on the way there is horrible and will probably tear up my car. i wanted to see how true this was. and also any other road hazards i should look out for while i make my trek there. is there anything going on that week as far as car meets and shows. i'm not sure how far i am from everything else. hope to see some sick Texas cars while i'm out there!

Hey Hoa, have a safe trip bro. PM Don, 1QWKGS, since he lives out there but is originally from Alabama, and regularly travels back and forth. He should know the quickest, safest routes.

Thanks for the intro Bing, Yes-your friend is right, I-10 between AL and Texas is a Nightmare. I've never hit so much crap in my cars.. If you plan to cruise to Houston, Just do a mapquest route and it will take you there fine. The only problem is rain its the usual occurrence when driving along the coastline and there is alot of debris everywhere, from wood, construction crap, stuff falling off work trucks.. If you want to avoid all that. Pick your travel days carefully.. Weekend is good but traffic can be slow. Either go on a Sunday (anytime), usually later is better, like leave mid-after noon and get there late is my preferred schedule. If you have to travel on a weekday pick any day but Friday. If you go on a weekday, I suggest you leave EARLY, REAL Early, You want to get to Baton Rouge before 3:30pm because it gets JAMMED there at 4pm (I don't know where you're leaving from) but when I leave Montgomery i leave at 4:30am and i get to Houston about 2pm(ish) without any problems.. and you want to get to Houston before 4pm on a weekday since Sugarland is on the Southwest side, you have go thru town and traffic is going to be heavy if you get there after 4pm.

So pick a day with good weather, not to much rain because driving in the rain for 10 hours is exhausting because you have to be more alert instead of just cruising along in good weather..

Final advice, Tape up your front bumper and part of the hood with Painters Tape.. you will need it and Thank yourself for doing this. Theres only a few times i travel unscathed, but i don't rely on luck any more.. Its better to save your car if you love it or let it be thrashed by the road if you don't care..

Have fun driving, i'm flying these days since i have one car in Houston and another one in Alabama.. No more driving 10 hours!! (My fastest time between Houston and Montgomery (650 miles) in 7 hours and 45m.. I was trucking hard!!

Have a Safe trip!
