Default Deleting post option?

What's up with not being able to delete one's own posts under the "Edit" function...or, from what I can tell, from any other function? JDR76 said he had the same problem. Is this a temporary issue in the software, or was it done intentionally? I just noticed it within the last week or so....and it doesn't seem to be changing.

Thanks Mike. I was coming on here to make a post about this. Others are noticing this issue too.

Count me in! I started noticing the Delete feature missing recently too. I was hoping the Admin disabled the feature by mistake and it would be corrected soon. I hope it's not permanent because it's a much needed and valuable feature.

AFAIK We haven't had the full 'delete a post' feature enabled for decades; are you not able to edit your past posts and remove content now (which is the way it's been accomplished otherwise)? I know we've had some changes in our member profiles recently.

Got links to where you've recently deleted posts so I can look at the background and timing?

Dave - I've been able to delete my own posts (not just edit content in my own posts) for years, as recently as maybe a couple weeks ago. Like JDR76 and mmarshall, they too have noticed they no longer have the ability to delete their own posts. It really is a very worthwhile and needed feature.

I cannot provide to you a thread in which I deleted one of my own posts. Sorry...too much activity to keep up with something like that. Maybe one of the other guys might know of one that they deleted...

Appreciate your help. Thanks!

OK I've done some digging - the 'delete post' option was turned on accidentally during a recent change only briefly.

Before that we never had it enabled as a best practice. Importantly, it lends itself to abuse by unscrupulous sellers in the marketplace to avoid negative feedback and scam.

Sorry we will not re-enable it - you can always do what historically you've done prior to that small window and edit out content you don't want listed. It accomplishes the same goal but allows other members the transparency of knowing a post was there.

That’s too bad. I’ve used it for years and found it to be useful. But I understand your reasoning.

Dave - As others (such as JDR76) will attest the Delete feature was available for years.

Sorry, don't think it was on CL but do think we may have had an option to edit or delete within first 5 minutes that might have been switched off (will go look for that tomorrow) .

Appreciate the understanding!

If it was, sorry it must have been toggled in error at some point... We can't enable at the forum level unfortunately - it's at the usergroup level.

I wasn't dreaming! We've had the Delete post feature for years...

Definitely see the older one, sure was! Somewhere somehow turned on by accident.

Sorry to take it away, but there is a good simple workaround by editing.

Glad you were able to recognize (see) that we've had the Delete feature...for many years. If it has never been a problem during all the years we've had it, how/why would having it be a problem going forward?

I can see where you may not want people having the Delete feature that use the 'Vendor Marketplace and Classifieds' forums, but you should be able to disallow the feature on those specific forums.

Sorry but no. As I mentioned earlier it has definitely caused issues in the past and that’s why it was disabled for most of this community’s history. I also said it cannot be turned off for individual forums, it’s set by usergroup.

There is an easy workaround to edit in place and re-save, please use that.
