Default Will not allow attachments of MP4 Files to posts.....

"The most common video format in 2025 is
MP4 (MPEG-4), prized for its balance of high quality and small file size, making it ideal for streaming, social media, and general use. It offers excellent compatibility across most devices and platforms, supported by web browsers and streaming services as a universal standard. The primary video codec used within MP4 is H.264, which provides efficient compression without significant loss of quality. "

MP4s tend to be large and can also open other concerns. YouTube is a better place to host such content and then simply hot-link it (copy/paste the URL to the video within in the post).

Not my understanding at all. Just the opposite.

Pros:
  • Universal Compatibility: MP4 files can be played on nearly all devices, from smartphones and tablets to laptops, smart TVs, and gaming consoles. This makes it the safest choice when you’re unsure what device your audience will use.
  • Efficient Compression: It compresses video efficiently, keeping file sizes relatively small while still maintaining good visual quality. This is especially important for streaming, where fast loading and smooth playback are critical.

Forums like this can't store large amounts of data that greatly increases hosting costs.

Then why allow bigger formats than MP4, which is smaller.

FYI - This post is how this thread got started.

H.265 codec can only do so much, a 2:00 minute file is still going to be fairly large.

Maybe, but MP4 is smaller than AVI (Which is accepted by this forum)

AVI and MP4 are two of the most commonly used file formats. As a result, people tend to need clarification as to which of these formats suits their purpose better.

Both AVI and MP4 are popular digital video formats; However, MP4 is generally considered to be the better of the two. MP4 offers higher quality video and audio, as well as a smaller file size, making it more suitable for streaming and sharing online. Additionally, MP4 is more widely supported than AVI, meaning it can be played on more devices.

But there's still an upload limit that's placed on accepted uploads and it's largely intended for pictures that are often necessary to help aid the discussion.

YouTube is known for video sharing and we're a discussion forum that allows some attachments. There is a very big difference between servers, resources and optimization.
