Default 2006 GS300 AWD O2 Sensor change Sensor1 Bank2

Hello all,
Yesterday I changed an O2 sensor (Bank2 Sensor1) in my 2006 GS300 AWD. Prior to changing the sensor my car had a check engine light with (!) next to it and the display above the mileage alternated the messages "CHECK VSC" and "CHECK SYSTEM" I had a shop look at the car and was given codes "P0174 System To Lean Bank 2" and "P2197 O2S Stuck Lean 2/1" I was told by a tech that the code was indicating that O2 Sensor 1 bank 2 needed to be changed. I purchased a new sensor Part #89467-30010 from the local Lexus dealership ($230) with a friends discount and borrowed a O2 socket from advanced auto and installed it last night. very tight space but the process wasn't too bad. but....The check engine is still ON! The light no longer blinks but it is still on and the message above the mileage no longer alternates between "CHECK VSC" AND "CHECK SYSTEM" but only displays "CHECK VSC". I know that there could possibly be many different issues that would prompt a VSC code but in the event that there is not another issue and the O2 Sensor was the only issue and it was the correct part and was in stalled correctly, would the engine light go out by itself or do I have to have it turned off after the repair?

Thanks in advance for any input.

2006 GS300 have carbon build up issues, to where carbon fills the valves and the tops of the pistons. It basically chokes the engines internals causing the cars sensors to go crazy. Have you had your engine rebuilt during the recall? How many miles are on it?

Hey Ibidu1 thanks for the feeback!
I have 165K on my car. As far as I know the engine hasn't been rebuilt. I just bought this car used so I don't know the complete history but I know but from the NHTSA recall record it is missing one recall for the following [Manufacture Recall Number: ELF Summary: In the subject vehicles, the sealing property of the gasket seated in between the pressure sensor and the fuel delivery pipe could become degraded. During vehicle operation, fuel could leak past the gasket.] I have the car scheduled to go to the dealer to have this done next friday.

I would ask the service guy or the tech to see if theres any signs of carbon issues, since there was a recall for them see if there are old stored codes. Also you can do a search of the vehicles dealer visits history and what issues it had and what was replaced by logging on mylexus.com and putting the vin number.

If it is carbon issue there are ways of cleaning the internals without removing the engine. Like taking off the intake manifold and spraying solvents on the valves themselves.

Thanks again!
So if there wasn't/isn't a carbon issue and everything was/is good with the car after the o2 sensor swap out. would the check engine light go off by itself or would it need to be turned off with a scanner?

Yup if it somehow fixed itself the check engine light will go away on its own no need to clear it. Some times its a bad alternator, poor battery terminal connection, etc that can cause stupid little issues like this, that sets off different codes.
