Default VSC, CEL with faulty O2 sensor code

New to Lexus with '02 AWD 150k miles will start with VSC and CEL and die when put into gear to drive. Car will not restart afterward unless I code and reset it. This doesn't happen all the time. Will replacing the 02 sensor stop this from occurring in the future. Sorry if this has been answered before but car and daughter is now 3hrs away at college and I need to fix it fast and permanently.

Is your check engine light on?
What codes do you get?
Do you have the freeze frame data?

There is more than one O2 sensor. You need to know exactly which one. Also, usually just an O2 sensor code does not cause the behavior you describe.

The CEL will come on eventually once it's been reset with the VSC. My scanner says both 02 sensors are bad (don't have the specific numeric codes in front of me). The belts were changed due to wear and squealing. The car needs other work. I do not know what freeze frame data is or means. I used to adjust belts before they were changed and the car would restart.

Can you eliminate that it is not your IACV. Read the sticky thread ... having problems start here.

Thanks for the help. I briefly cleaned the IAC and throttle body. The car started up and appears to run fine for now. There have been a few things wrong with this car/truck that it was hard to pin point exact cause. My daughter loves this car and I hope to keep it on the road for a few more years or more. Thanks again for the feedback.
