You didn't specify the year in either your post or your profile, so I made a guess and moved it to the 3rd gen RX forum. If this is incorrect, another mod can move it to the right one. You'll get much better help posting in the correct forum for your model.

the waterpump is considered covered as part of the lexus drivetrain warranty 72months 70k miles which might be extended if you purchased cpo.
therefore no owner shouldve paid for this replacement within the warranty period.

To start with what year is your RX350? I would assume a 2010 and up?

Just for additional context, in my year of being in this forum, I don;t recall ever seeing anyone post about needing a water pump. Regardless, having a transverse mounted engine's water pump replaced for $800 does sound sort of "typical". That said, if the engine only has 43K miles on it, something does not sound right about this scenario. Most automakers recommend water pump replacements at no less than 90K mile intervals, but I'm not sure what Lexus recommends.

Pete:
There is no recommended milage to replace the water-pump.
Since the Timing Belt needs to come off, folks typically replace it at the timing belt change. First gen RX had a robust pump and seal, and I replaced mine preemptively at 190K miles [still had no leaks]. For '95 SC, I gambled and skipped replacement at 90K, had to open the front end at 150k miles.

There's no belt on the 2GR-FE, so that service is no longer needed.
However, if you need a datapoint, you can consider that SLLC coolant isn't even scheduled to be replaced until 100,000 miles. You'd expect the pump to last at least several times as long as the coolant. For all intents it is "lifetime" except for unexpected failure.
If you want to plan ahead the 2nd coolant change is due at 150k, and 3rd at 200k, so if you want to throw your money away, those would be the new points for "proactive" maintenance.
