Help! My husband ran our car with very little oil for a long time. We went to change the oil and it did not register. We looked in the area you put the oil into and it is bake on black, hardened sludge. We have put motor flush through and drained it. Black sludge still there and oil registers still very low after putting 41/2 quarts of oil. What can I do?

No one will be able to tell you. Do a compression test to see if there is any damage.

If you put in 4.5 quarts and it is low on the stick, it was run until empty. So there is a 99.99% chance the engine is toast.

exactly how long is a "long time"
and just to clarify, after adding 4.5 quarts of oil it still doesn't show on the stick? if so keep adding till it does.

im gonna guess and say its a V6 or V8
older 3.3L take 5.5L and 2GR take 6.2L or 6.5L
V8 are usually 7L+
