Default Oil level?

hey what's up the oil light comes on sometimes? It came on here and there but I notice it about a month ago, now it comes one maybe onces a day. it's only been two days and I seen it twice. I'll check it out tomorrow, if its low should I just add a qt? 5w-30 mobile 1 synthetic gold cap? I check the oil didn't feel any junk or the oil wasn't black. PS new to this.

The SC naturally burns a very small amount of oil as it runs.
If the light comes on intermittently it's because you're near the "low" level and as the level of oil near the sensor fluctuates it can get to a point where the car thinks its low.

Also you may have an oil leak.

Just make sure you're changing your oil at a normal interval, you can add 2/5 of a quart or 1/2 a quart, but I wouldn't add a full quart. If there's too much oil you can cause damage to the oil seals around the engine. How long (time and mileage) has it been since your last oil change?

Recently, maybe the last 4 or 5 oil change intervals I have noticed that about midway between oil changes my light will come on if I make a hard left turn. The oil stick always shows plenty of oil but I will add a half a quart or maybe an additive and then I'm good to go.

i had this "problem" as well, whenever on a cold start i started driving, once the oil circulated to the top of the engine it would think there's not enough so the light came on, then turned off after a few seconds. just a little bit of oil, it should be about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way to full on the dipstick.

If you haven't done an oil change yet, then do an oil change.
That way you can figure out how quickly it's getting low from full and if there is a larger problem at work or not.

I did the oil change on my car I used 10w-30 Mobile 1 Synthetic nearly 5.2 quarts of oil and I also used a K&N Oil filter. I chose 10w-30 because lexus recommend it car the oil for 5w-30 would be too thin I was thinking 10w-40 but maybe the next oil change what you guys think about that or stick with 10w-30? once you go synthetic you can't go back btw.

once you go synthetic you can go back to regular and vice versa whenever you want.

why 10-40, just run 10-30. 5-30 is fine to use in winter also. alot of toyota's people use 5-30 year round but just depends I do that with the regular non performance cars.

Our cars hold 5.5qts of oil.

I think this is worth mentioning because the other day in the SC groups on facebook a bunch of people thought the SC300's oil capacity was only 4.5 qts. So lots of people have been driving around 1qt low.

Also, JZ motors are notorious for spinning bearings when the oil pressure gets low.

10w30 is ok if its organic (for the summer) but if you swap to synthetic I'd choose 5w30.

I wouldn't switch to 10w40 unless you lived in Texas or Arizona and you had a lot of wear on your motor. And in that case the thicker oil doesn't really solve your problems, it just slows them down.
