Trying to change out my front driver side headlight bulb, cannot seem to access the bulb.

After removing the plastic cover to the engine, and then removing the funnel for the windshield wiper fluid, I have encountered an issue. I assume this is a metal cover that can be removed, but before trying just want to make sure (See picture attachment)

P.s. I have an appointment for service tomorrow but from the service rep on the phone it seems that this is not covered under Lexus care or the power train warranty. I will hopefully fight them on this tomorrow, but in case I would like to know how to change this myself

If you have the LED headlights, which I would assume you do, you cannot change the bulbs.

When I replaced my LED headlights with a used ebay one due to a pigeon collision, the only things I were able to replace was the turn signal bulb, and the ballasts (i think they're ballasts) as the ebay one didn't have any.

CAUTION!!!

do not touch that metal box! that's an HID ballast. You can be seriously injured or even fatally electrocuted if you touch it while it's on or if you open it up and try to jerk it around. That is not your typical "imma change a light bulb" light bulb. Extreme caution needs to be used.

You shouldn't have to remove the headlight to change an HID bulb. It may be a tight fit but usually workable. To access the bulb: It's usually a plastic cover that latches and you twist the plug counter clockwise to unseat it from the bulb then the bulb is held in using a spring loaded clip.

The part # pictured comes back to Toyota Xenon Ballast so he probably has the standard IS (non F sport) which has HID stuff

Correct this is a base model, but it does have the HID's

From what it looks like, the ballast seems to cover the light bulb. Also, the stealership wants 250 to change it. Anyone have any idea how to get to the bulb on the 3rd gens?

The Ballast on HID housing is a two in one type thing. It is a Ballast and a cover for the housing as well.
turn the ballast counterclockwise i believe like a bulb/cover and the whole thing should sorta unscrew off the headlight housing and then expose the HID bulb.

You are correct. Had a friend look this up at work. Take plug out, turn ballast counter clockwise and remove. Unfortunately its raining right now so I have to do this tomorrow. Also, any idea if the bulb is D4S 9005/HB3? just want to double check before ordering a new one

Also anyone have any idea what brand the stock bulbs are? Id like to put this thing on order before having to remove the old one

You may also want to disconnect the battery, remove the ballast connector, and wait at least 15 minutes for the ballast to fully discharge.

Will I need to reset anything after doing that? Also are the stock HID bulbs philips? seems there are a few different bulb options

I would go with Phillips brand for HID bulbs. They are typically the OEM manufacturers go to.

There's no need to reset anything as the ecu will reset itself.
Disconnecting the battery source is a must when working with high voltage devices. You would not live to tell a story after being zapped by 30,000V.
