Unhappy IS350 Gasoline and Coolant smell in cabin

I just picked up a 2008 IS350. The interior has a very odd maple syrup smell (seems like coolant) as well as a raw gas smell in the cabin. I have searched the forums and the only thing I could find was that there was a recall for the FPR gasket which my VIN doesn't show outstanding. Smell is more prevalent when windows are down while not moving. Can't smell it from the outside.

Are there any known problem areas on the IS350 to look to identify the gas and coolant smell?

Could be mildew from a blocked A/C drain. The fuel through, that's not good at all. Perhaps a professional detailer can recommend a treatment for the carpets/seats/pillars/headliner to help with any smells.

It is definitely a coolant smell. I have already steam cleaned/ shampooed the carpets, replaced the cabin filter. The smell is coming from the vents for the coolant and gas smell. Not as noticeable with recirculate on, but definitely still there

Antifreeze smell. Sounds like heater core leaking.

Is this a common issue with the IS series?

Not necessarily. It's an age thing.

I did just notice there is a red residue all over the filler cap on the radiator, might have a leak...

Do you mean on the overflow tank? If so, that unfortunately is normal. Also keep in mind that the overflow tank has a short tube that dumps any excess (due to pressure) directly on top of the radiator.

My 06 IS350 has a gas smell and had that recall already done. I've gotten used to the smell, but a friend of mine noticed it and showed concern. I think I remember hearing from a tech that it's normal for our cars, since they're direct injection and run rich at times.

Check under rear seat that gasket on top of tank sender is not leaking and hoses secure.

2012 is250 and I've been smelling gas through the vents as well. When in circular mode i don't get any smell but I've checked for leaks and nothing anywhere unless it's a gasket somewhere. Let me know if there's an answer.

Had the same thing for a long time in my 06 250. Traced the fuel leak (o ring) by high pressure pump on passenger side near battery.

There's a recall on fuel line fitting seal located near the firewall side engine bay. I had occasional gas fume smell in my car before I had the recall done..
