34,000 miles....needs pad? 2014
This seems pretty crazy. 2014 RX350 with 34,500. Go in for oil change and tell them to pelase do full inspection before road trip and warranty only had 10 months left
They call to tell me front pads are only 2mm and need resurfacing and pads/shims ASAP for $289 - 10%. I go ahead and have them do this as wife is taking car
34,500 miles seems exceptionally low miles to need this....are others seeing the same?

funny ^^^ my lexus dealer said my front brakes were going to be needed soon too on my 2015 with 31k on it. so i took it to my local toyota dealer to have the trans fluid flushed and state inspection. they said brakes were 7 front/8 rear? go figure.

My 2010 needed rear pads at 35,000 but the fronts were fine! I got it used at 21,000 so do not know how the first owner drove it, but know it was city/urban.

Would love some other owners and put on front brake pad wear. I also find it odd that the brake light never came on. Maybe I am being to skeptical? I hated to have the work done as I usually do pads myself but with a road trip coming up didn't want to wait or risk it

You got screwed unless either of you drive with your left foot touching the brake pedal. Pads last longer than that on Tortola in the BVI's and that place eats pads like no other.
Edit: I bought a 2005 Honda Accord with 262,000 km on it a couple of years ago. Literally, still on the original pads!
Obviously, results not typical, but I'm just mentioning it to highlight the variance you'll see in pad wear from owner to owner.

You should hear screeching from the pad wear indicators when they are a week or so away from hitting the rotors with the pad backing.

34K miles doesn't sound off ( +/- 55K Km). City driving here, many hills & severe weather with salt.
Don't think a metallic pad will give you the mileage as the older style materials but they sure stop a lot better.
Your own climate & terrain will play a big factor along with driving styles.

Whenever they say your pads are low, tell them to take a pic and show you (as you will not be allowed to be in the shop bay). If they show you the pic, feel confident that they are not BS you. You can ask for the old pads so you can verify, but sorry to say that the dealer has not earned your respect. Technically there is no way to confirm or determine what miles your pads will wear out. Safe to say At 35K miles, yes they may need replacing.
The more important this is that the dealer respects you and you trust them in return.

It really depends on the type of driving that you do and how you drive.. If you're primarily driving on the highway then 34K seems crazy to me too. If you're driving in the city with a lot of stop and go traffic then 34K doesn't seem too crazy..

Absolutely agree with the above statement. Some people go through pads like crazy.

You should be able to look at the pads through the wheel to see how they are. Granted, not as good as pulling the wheel off and getting a better look. But a quick look in there should tell you if they are worn or not.

Pads and even rotor wear is a driving habit issue, some people ride the brakes others have to brake allot due to city driving others hardly ever brake due to highway driving etc....Also pads material, ceramic, metallic, semi metallic plays a role too.
Safety first change them pads...
