Default Electricity usage/cost thread

Well skimming through the gas price thread, it seemed to turn a little political. No other way a thread like that can turn, self inflicted wounds eventually get infected, and, well you know Since I can't really participate in that thread, decided to start my own, except this one focuses on the cost of powering EV's. This chart shows the amount of energy I've used for fueling my Model 3, as well as the cost:

Basically, 105.8 kWh of energy usage is what it took for me to drive 434 miles. If you convert this to gas, it's 3.14 gallons. Are you freaking serious???? I'm telling you, I ain't going back to a gas car 🤣

So dude listen. 394 HP, 377 ft-lbs torque, 0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds on 9 out of 10 launches. Cheap to fuel. Why TF would I go back to a gas car? EV owners, please post your energy usage and cost here

Saw a Tesla 3 absolutely smoke a Dodge Charger, looked like a higher end Dodge, it was quite embarrassing as the Dodge sort of lost its rear end for a moment, it was no contest…but the Dodge did sound good a 8:45 in the morning

That's the "utility" cost if I was pulling from the grid, actual cost is more like $20

Dodge Charger does sound awesome, but, I like it quiet

Who is forcing u to go to a gas car?!

The gas folks just don’t want to be forced to buy EVs like some governments have tried to make happen.

Btw i have never measured 0-60 on any of my cars and could care less what it is.

I don't track nor care about my electric and gas usage lol!

I also would need a car a good bit faster than that with a hell of a lot more features to tie what I have so I'm waiting for the same thing I said I want years ago.

2k HP, 650 mile range, 5 min reload, and a Bentley level interior. I'll go EV once that's a thing

My California home has PG&E. If I had an EV... below are what the home charging rates would be during this summer depending on plan and time of day.

Here in Chattanooga it would cost 12 pennies kWh no matter what time of day. Using the OP's example of 105kWh = $13. Compared to $24 - $65 at the California home.

Huh? Can't I express my opinions here without getting attacked??? Where am I advocating forcing anyone to buy an EV? Jeez man, take a chill pill 🤣

Right now I'm roughly paying about .18 cents a kWh due to solar. Send down some of that electricity to me please, I'll pay you .14 cents for it

My parents don't have their solar grid tied so they are paying normal rates, not worth the hassle to them.

I may setup my new shop with solar but I also don't want to have to deal with the hassle and inconsistency so I may not gird tie it as well. If I do use solar at all it would be setup to draw from the solar first then grid if needed.

Its just so expensive for what it is I hesitate to lock in with it since if anything goes wrong my payoff gets pushed off severely

If you're electricity rates are low, it's probably not worth spending the money, but here rates are high, and being stuck with PG&E they charge you for the electricity itself as well as "transmission" fees, so you end up paying .38 cents on the low end (off peak) and almost .60 cents on the high end, between 4pm and 9pm. Solar off-sets that, and with two Tesla Power walls I store excess energy in the day and my house switches to batteries after 4pm. It saves me money and I don't give those bastards any of my excess power so they can resell it at a higher rate

Ha!

Power company rates are low here so there's very little interest in home solar. For those who want to add solar to their global savior resume, the power company has some solar panels set up and offers a lease plan "Solar Share" so the customer can pretend they're getting electricity from a solar panel.

LoL they do that here as well, and sell it to you for .14 cents a kWh for off peak. Except PG&E charges you a "transmission" fee that can add another .30 to .55 cents. So I don't have to sell them back my excess solar they pay pennies for, I store all my excess energy in batteries for use after the sun goes down

Holy ****.

Yeah no it's nowhere near that here! It's $0.09 here per raw KWH and around $0.11 for me all in or .017ish if you don't buy much. If it was as bad as you have it I would totally fully activate my parents array and run my shop off an array as well! In their case it was a 45kw backup generator OR a full solar setup for the same price, I pushed them to the solar as it's an "infinite" backup in the event of serious problems.
