Default Oil Change at the Dealer - and other tales from the Crypt

>Oil change at Lexus dealer
>Brought my own oil because they always fill 500s with 0W-20 for some reason
>Car put at a bay with direct view from lobby window (this should be fun)
>Watch guy lift the car - car slides slightly on the lift points - almost died
>Watch tech's helper struggle to take off drain plug - almost died
>Still dripping, helper struggles to take o-ring off - almost died
>Still dripping, he puts drain plug back anyway - wtf
>Tech takes off filter canister like ripping of a band-aid - oil explosion
>Other curious tech ogre shows up to chat, puts whole forearm through front air inlet to rest his weight while car on lift - hello bumper sag?
>Oil filter and plug on but not tightened - tech wonders off carrying paperwork to another bay - the agony
>Returns and tightens things about, lowers car and fills with oil (he actually used my oil)
>Places vital oil change sticker on windshield - a job well done
>Take my car back, inspect everything, oil cap barely tightened, windshield wiper fluid cup completely popped open, oil slightly overfilled

That'll be $46.16 sir.

You should be grateful they let you bring your own oil! No dealers or indies here allow that. You never want to watch the sausage being made.....

I’ve read stories from Edgar Allen Poe that are less scary.

Why the hell are they using 0W-20? My last dealership visit they used the normal 5W-30. What kind of slipshod Lexus dealership is this?

And while we are on the subject of Lexus service, on my last visit they wrote my service down as a 10K service (car had 4,091 miles on it) and said they reset the maintenance indicator lights. But lo and behold when my car reached 4,500 miles all the lights came on and I had to reset them myself. Fortunately I am car savvy enough to know they actually DID change my oil, but that kind of shenanigans chaps my hide.

They listed 0W-20 at my second oil change too and the mechanic couldn't confirm if they had just entered it by default or actually used 5W-30 so I had them change it again. Now I just go to my local mechanic with my own VRP 5W-30 and filter, where one of the senior guys changed it for me.

Because the IS350 uses 0W-20 and they just assume the same for the IS500. You know what happens when people just assume .
