I'm looking for component set for GS. But should I get a 3 way component set, or a 2 way? What size is for the front components, and what size is the rear speakers in the door?

What size and set would you recommend?

System goals?

3 ways more flexible, but more tuning involved. 2 way is simpler and imaging is easier to deal with. Front and rear stock sizes are 4 inch rounds. Brands...lots out there, depends on your taste and goals.

I just want a clean sounding system. Nice components, and 2 12w3. But for right now, I'm gonna get a head unit and 2 12's. and run a amp powering the stock speakers.

What ohms are the stock speakers?

 

Stock pionner system uses 2 ohm for the front mids, 4 ohms for the rears, 2 ohms for the sub. Don't remember the tweets, but I'm pretty sure they're 2 ohm.

2 way set, Dynaudio. But, that's just me. Very very clean sounding.

I'm a PolkAudio fan myself. I recommend Polk db6500 or Polk MOMO MM6 for the front and db650's for ther rear.

 

Well it all depends on what kind of sound your looking for, when I upgraded the system in my last GS 400 I used Focal polykevlar's the 5 3/8 think they were the 136K's so you can fit a bigger speaker upfront, just need to use baffels. I'd definately reccomend 2-ways, 3ways are a pain to install and tune and need at least 150w/ side to sound great IMO. Also forget about using the dect to power the speakers they will distort at high volumes, save up a little more and get a second amp to power your system it will make a huge difference. Also no components for the rear, just throw in some coaxils, you can run those off of a deck, but please amplify you front speakers. Some other choices are JL audio, Boston acoustics, The Dyn's are great but expensive, and if you spend that much on a great set of components then why on earth would you power them off of a deck, anyone that ells you different is insane. I would rather get a lower line of speaker and use the left over money for an amp and they will sound much better than the most expensive set of speakers powered off of a deck.

Thanks, I've been into systems everysince I could drive, so I know my way around, sorta. I've been out of the "system" scene so I just wanted to get a feel of what people are using these days.

I already have to 2 ppi power class amps. So i'm waiting on a pioneer avh-7500dvd. My plan is to run my 4 channel amp bridge to 2 channels for my fronts, and go with 2 12w3's.

But as far as front's components, you can go with at least 5 1/4 or can you only fit 4?

As far as the coaxils goes, what size should I go for the rears?

Yes you can certainly fit a 5 1/4 up front, I'm sure you can even fit a shallow 6.5 if properly installed, for the rears go with a 5 1/4 that all you really need. How much power does you 4 channel put out, RMS power?

 

it's the pcx440. Bridge, will probably getting about 100 rms. I don't want to go to crazy, I'm difinitely a modder on a budget. I had this amp running m5 5 1/4 components, and 2 6x9's, and it sounded pretty good. So I'm thinking this should be ok, when ran bridge.

 

On only 100watts 3 ways are almost definately out, your idea of using it power the front speakers is good, why not leave our the rear speakers alot of people dont have any rear fill, but if you alwys roll 4 deep, then theat may not be an option.

 

I was in your position about 6 months ago: I was out of the car stereo scene for a whiel ( since High School) and needed to create a system.

If you are just trying to get a feel for what is available to you right now, I will comment on some of the brands I've heard when doing my search: I was only willing to spend $2000-2500 for my whole system (components, cabling, installtion, fabrication) so some of the the HIGH-higher end speakers were not an option ($550.00 per pair)

Alpine make components now, so do Kicker and JL Audio. I auditioned Infinity Kappa, Alpine Type S (I think) and Polk db Series and Polk MOMO series. Obviously I was happiest with the Polk setup. Momo and db sounded identical to me so I saved 50.00 and went with the db.

- External crossover with a 24db slope.
- 30-120 watts RMS with a 300Watt peak.
- 1 inch Titanium dome tweeter
- Dynamic Balance woofer

I have one Kicker amp split into a 4 channel (125x4) for the cabin speakers and the other is bridged stereo @ 300Wx2x4 Ohms. I am happy with the sound. I'll be changing subs again from Infinity Reference to Polk Momo only because I need the trunk space. The Infinity's require 1.25 ft3 per chamber and the Polk's only require .88 ft3. Hope that little bit helps you evaluate brands.
