Default Fuel Savings Going to 300h??

Just got a new job with a daily commute of 160km, 100 miles for my US friends. Considering trading in for a 300h but unsure of the "actual" fuel savings for my high mountain highway drive each day.

Anyone had or driven both with any thoughts? Also considering a diesel Touraeg.

C
Can't speak on the fuel issue but once had a Volkswagen and was the worst money pit. Would never under any circumstance own another . Lexus has been #1 for six years in a row in dependability by J D Power. They are also the third least expensive to maintain.

That's why my first inclination is to go 300h, just not sure about the actual fuel savings on the highway. I currently get about 10.0l/100km in my F Sport actual mountain highway driving.

The hybrid's strength is with city commuting duty. We just filled up tonight and calculated 33.6 MPG on city driving. Apologies, but I don't know the conversion off hand. However, the highway rating I believe is only 31 (haven't driven ours on any significant highway trips yet). Given the modest improvement the hybrid offers over the turbo on highways, the economics probably aren't worth it. You also have to consider how steep your drive might be as the Hybrid doesn't have as much horsepower. There are numerous other benefits and we really like our hybrid, but many of those benefits such as the smoother and quieter drivetrain do not apply in highway driving. As much as I like ours, I probably wouldn't recommend it if the bulk of your driving will be highway/mountain driving.

I once bought an RX450H because I drove about 500 miles per week mostly highway...after about 33000 miles the 450h average mpg is about 2 mpg better than my wife's RX350 (26 mpg vs. 24 mpg) of the same year and same configuration. The 450h is about 4500 bucks more expensive.

Keep your FSport and save your $$$$ (maybe a Prius, but you may have to loose 1 ball, j/k)

Thanks, that is the plan, I am not prepared to downgrade to a Prius or diesel Jetta at this point!

Sounds like your decision has been made, but just to lend you some support, I went from a hybrid RX to the Turbo F-Sport and love the difference in performance.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the hybrid, and the fuel mileage was nice, but during my frequent highway drives in the Siskiyou, Sierra, and Cascade mountain ranges, I much prefer the handling and performance of the AWD F-Sport.
