coming from you 3rd gen IS owners, i am cross shopping between the GS and IS models, i love both of them styling wise, but the room in my dads GS-F is really nice, i am getting one of these models next year when i get my drivers license (have my permit now) but i really need some suggestions. both models will be 350 F-Sports so it's the cosmetic differences I've been looking at. thanks guys

 

disclaimer: I went to the new york auto show yesterday and sat in both in the front and back seats, and the IS was not too cramped in the back with the seating position to my height (5'9"), so i really don't know what to do the interior of the IS did look a little cheap down by the heated/cooled seat and heated steering wheel, which made me feel a little skeptical of the overall quality of the car.

 

If you need more room go for the GS if not go with the IS. I have the is350 f sport and its a great car.

Plus, the GS has better options with the F Sport package (i.e. ML package and HUD)

The Gs feels much bigger when you drive it. I like how nimble the IS feels. It's a personal preference but I chose the IS due to this size difference.

 

This is exactly what swayed me in the direction of the IS when I was doing my homework...

 

I like the styling of my IS better.. but since you like them both, you might as well grab the bigger more expensive car.

 

I had the same dilemma in choosing. For me, since we don't have kids yet, I wanted to go with the sporty nimble car in the IS FSport, plus we already have a 2016 MDX. My next car will be the comfortable luxury ride in the GSF. If I were just getting my license, I think I personally would go with the IS.

 

You could go with the IS now, then if you really want you could get the GS-F after because by then the GS will probably be in its last production year.

I personally came from a non f sport 14 GS and I like how cozy my IS is, it feels like a cockpit.

 

Cozy is the right word.

 

Styling wise, although subjective, I prefer the curves and more aggressive stance of the IS, especially from the rear. That aside, the GS is better crafted most notably in ride isolation and interior materials. IS = noticeable hard plastics while the GS has virtually all soft plastics even the lower door panels, glovebox, etc.

If money is not an issue and you plan on keeping it for 5+ years, get the GS. If you wouldn't mind saving 8K and you're the type that would want to change cars ever 2-4 years, get the IS now and the next gen GS in time for your family needs.

 

Now that i've had my IS for 3 months, I would definitely say the GS. But i'm also very much in love with the new facelift of the 2016 model. The '13-15 models, not so much. (I prefer my IS over those).

You can't go wrong with either car. For a teenager, the IS seems more sporty. I'd save the GS for your 20's. By then, you can have your dad's GS-F!

 

GS-Fsport man the IS might get a face lift in couple of years, the GS has more space and looks lovely with the new face lift.

 

I feel the same about the rear. Very bland.
