Thanks to CL Member "Reyngel" for pointing this out in the 2009 Post US Release discussion thread...

I will just keep it simple here..
The 2009 Taillights bulge out (a lot more) of the bodylines of the new IS.
Mainly along the bottom of the side-rear fender area and trunk lid.
This bulge is very apparent on both the Inner & Outer Tail Light housings.

You really cannot see the difference from straight on when taking a pic of the rear, so I took some different angle pics that actually show the differences.

Not sure if anyone thought about using these on an 06' to 08' IS or the IS-F, but if you did you would NOT be able to mix and match these housings up, between the different years or models.

I am glad I have my IS-F tails...

IDK why Lexus would change from such a clean fitment to these new tail lights. Doesn't flow as nice IMO.

 

The new design looks a lot cheaper IMO

I almost got red outs for my car, but ended up with the F tails instead..

 

personally i dont like the 09 tail lights. Looks to much like the ES model tail lights. but thats just my input.

I am glad this thread emerged. IMO, and many local Chicago CL guys agree that these 09 tails look like a cheap Nike swoosh. The amber area is so much bigger. IS-F tails all the way or red-out look great. I do not know what Lexus was thinking. They should have simply made it all red with a clear lens for reverse lights from the beginning.

 

I don't think llamaboiz is kidding, this is the 3rd time i read saying that he wants to do that :P

 

So it's not possible to put 06-08 tails on an 09?

 

I will find out in person, I plan to hit Oahu in January (lol).

 

the 09 lights look horrible.
