thats due to a saturated market. if this s/c goes for 6 grand, in a year you might get it for 5. its not like they'll be floating around

Just talked to HKS about the supercharger. "We do not have plans to bring that system to the United States because of ECU limitations"

The TOMs supercharger, which also requies a non-US car for the ECU mods, runs 5.8 lbs of boost... instead of the 5 lbs the LMS supercharger ran.

Almost nobody has bothered buying either unit as far as I know.

So mostly you're getting upset over a product none of you would have bought anyway.

Unless they magically found a way to run a lot more boost than TOMs did with basically the same resources on the same engine.

^^ we have a few members that have the LMS and the Toms....but the gains are so minimal. The best thing to do is build the kit yourself but I priced it out myself and its just not worth the cost. Time for a new car if you want to do these kinds of mods

I'm curious - why are the JDM and US-spec ECUs so different?

That's a good questions. The hardware should be the same but I am guessing the software if very different.

The US and EU have a huge blackmarket for stolen cars & parts. The OEM's have added high bit encrypted communication to the various networks to make them incompatible with the same model of car.

This is just my guess.

Regards,

I believe the encryption is entirely about preventing the aftermarket from altering the fuel and timing maps to reduce expensive warranty claims. I don't see how theft prevention could have anything to do with it. It's not like the immobilizer and fuel / timing maps are related.

It's just a short work week before a holiday and we are just bored. Nothing personal. So far any S/C kit for these cars seems to be an overpriced joke. IMO.
