Default RZ450e Activity Mount vs. another type of Hitch for Bike Rack?

Hi fellow Lexus friends,

I have a new RZ450e and I need to attach a bike rack to it for local mountain biking. Presumably I should go with a hitch mounted style.
Anyone have experience getting their dealer to add one of the Lexus-branded "Activity Mounts"? Do you recommend that over a standard 1.25 (or 2"?) hitch?

Unfortunately the RZ is so new I don't see it on etrailers.com or anywhere else I might look for other hitch options.
Any tips would be much appreciated! Aware that RZ has low towing capability (~150 lbs?) and I should stick with a lighterweight rack like the Kuat Sherpa 2.0.

Welcome! Crazy, do we not even have a RZ specific forum area yet?

Activity mount is likely fine? believe it's a 1.25 mount, just no wiring but don't have direct experience with it

Hi, did you ever solve your bike mount issue? I have a Yakima two-bike trailer mount and I do miss the trailer hitch in my former vehicle, a 2019 Passport. Any progress? Thanks.

Default Went with activity mount!

Circling back here— yeah I ended up waiting a while to see if Curt would release a standard third-party hitch for the RZ. Several months later, I still haven’t seen anything available, etrailer.com has nothing, and U-Haul also lists nothing for the RZ. In fact, the car isn’t even in the list of available options! Still too new, I suppose for a third-party option.

In the end I decided I didn’t wanna wait any longer and so I got the dealership to install the activity mount. I actually just did that a couple of weeks ago. The only catch here is that it’s a 1.25 inch mount, not a 2 inch mount, so make sure that you get the correct bike rack that fits. I’m planning to do the bike rack this week, probably go with the two bike Kuat Sherpa.

Please come back after you have used the bike rack and post about effects on access via the rear hatch. Will you have to remove both the bikes and the rack to load and unload cargo? And stability of the bikes, since 1.25 inches is a pretty small receiver tube.

Curt now has a regular 2" hitch for RZ450e. It's around $300, so about $100 cheaper than Lexus 1.25" version. I found a local Curt dealer and the installation was very reasonable. In the end, I got a 2" hitch (instead of the 1.25" that Lexus offers) and reasonable total price, instead of overcharged Lexus installation (they wanted $900 for install). If you are handy, you can probably install the hitch yourself. You do need to cut the plastic undercarriage cover to allow the hitch to poke out. Hopefully this helps the next person looking for a hitch to fit Rz.

Downside is that my trunk doesn't open with foot wave..
