Default What would you do?

So, after quite a busy day working on Topless, I decided to do some quick monitoring with the scan tool. I have no check engine light etc. She honestly felt just the tiniest bit off. You know?
So, I have one O2 sensor (bank 1 S2) that is just about dead. It's not dead yet. Still runs just about .08 volts. But it does not fluctuate in voltage when you blip the throttle anywhere near what it should. The other three? No problem.
Would you wait for it to fail? These sensors are an absolute nightmare to change. This one is on the drivers side, under the seating area if I am correct and the connection comes into the cabin under the carpet etc. etc.

I was planning to. But I dont want to. I remember watching a video about that one and it looked painful. Plus the sensor is about $175.00. Ouch. But I have also seen shops just cut off the old one and splice the wires together to save labor. Not going to have any of that for my girl!

I saw the Denso O2 sensors for $38-$49 on Rockauto.

I’d buy the sensor and wait til it fails then replace. One of my buddy did not replaced the failed sensor on his Camry until the registration time.

Question? Could my CAT cause the lack of voltage fluctuations on my Bank 1, S2? If so, how would you check?
I would reiterate, no codes and no real change in performance.

I don’t think so, cats usually cause the P0420 and P0430, B1 and B2 respectively…was dealing with that problem on my Firebird and finally found a reliable cheat.
anyway, I would wait until you have a code.

BTW, what are your thoughts on the O2 sensors link above?

I ordered two Denso sensors at $90 total from Rock Auto.
And as always, thanks for the pointer. I dont want to be that guy that just throws parts at it until you get it right though. And since it hasn't actually failed, there's always the possibility that it is actually reading correctly. True? I cannot prove either way right now. And accessing the downstream sensor plug is stupid rediculas.
Fortunately or unfortunately, I am gutting my trunk, back seat etc chasing down the cause of my door speakers intermittent issues. So, pulling seats and carpet back is just another couple of hours work right?

Just FYI. No harm no foul and no critism. The O2 sensor P/N's changed in 06. I caught it and ordered two for my 2002 and will send the first two back unless someone needs downstream O2 sensors for their 06-10. Thanks.

sorry Paul, I always forget to look up a persons profile for the model and year…I just pick a year and post the link since most parts are the same.
again, I am sorry you ordered the wrong part…

WOW. After more research I now know why changing the downstream sensors is such a problem.
The carpet isn't really carpet. It's a molded one piece rigid foam bucket with carpet impregnated to one side. The connections for the downstream O2 sensors are low, forward towards the firewall and behind a NAV unit.
Since I am tearing everything apart anyway chasing a stereo problem, it looks like 10 screws will remove the center console. I'm hoping that gives me easy access. No wonder so many people cut off the old one to splice in the new one. The trouble is, they do a crappy job.😤

Ended up slicing an O2 sensor for my 2000 Honda CRV, for the exact reason of access issue. I bothered with O2 sensors to pass emission tests!

Done replacing both O2 sensors. The key is to remove the center console.

It's not hard. Just a PITA. Both sides are virtually identical. Now that its done, I dont expect to ever have to do that again. And is why I just did them both at the same time.

Raven,
I'm next in line to do this job, just ordered a replacement of the B2S2 from Densoproducts. I hope I don't have to remove the center console. My plan involves a string. Thanks for posting pictures.

Anyone can think outside the box and come up with a solution that works. I truely believe the easiest option is to cut the plug at the sensor and then install a new connector. P/N 90980-10794 with the pins. Very important. Then you create a jumper and eliminate all the hassle coming your way.
Or you watch YouTube videos and see the hell coming your way if you don't remove the center console. 🤣
In all seriousness, removing the center console is a piece of cake and can be done in about 15 minutes. It gives you access to the rubber plug that goes through the body under your feet. The sensor is designed to be dropped to the outside from the inside. The rubber plug only fits one way. 🙁
