Poor steering returnability
as i keep working on my car and finally taking it out for the short drives, i noticed that after the turn wheels are not returning to the straight position. They do that to some extent but not all the way as my other cars do. I know from the Lexus service records that this was done to it in 2014 at 190K (now 244K)
Service: REPLACED POWER STEERING RACK
Description: REPLACED POWER STEERING RACK ~|~C/S VEHICLE IS TOWED IN- REPLACED RIGHT RIM & 2 FRONT TIRES- CHECK LEFT FRONT RIM FOR CRACK & TIE ROD DAMAGE ~|
Anything i can check there? i assume this was replaced with OEM parts
After that, it's something in the steering or suspension that needs repair.
1st step in trouble shooting is to try and split the larger system apart in order to narrow down what to check.
I would raise the front end off ground, pop loose the tie rod ends, then see if there is any binding in the steering system. Turning the wheel should be smooth from lock to lock.
If that's checks out OK, then it seems likely that a suspension component is binding, maybe a ball joint.
Keep in mind I'm a newbie to the SC430, so my advice is general. Maybe others that know more about SC steering and suspension can offer other things to check.
