Well here I go, picked up a beautiful 02 supposedly with a starter issue. Think more involved that's that, mechanic wants to rule out electrical. Been reading a lot, not the most tech savvy mechanic, more the YouTube mechanic 😁. So any help appreciated. Here are the symptoms. Fyi the radio was upgraded with back up camera. No crank no start. Security light flashes constantly even with key in the ignition. Obd codes are LL gateway codes. Dome lights, auto door locks don't work, passenger window not working, key fob remote doesn't work. I have checked relays, fuses, reset the ecu, obd was not reading the vehicle before now getting gateway codes, see pic. Bought new keys cut from ebay, turns power on, tried to program but did not work. Going to replace 120a fuse, consider network gateway module, or try another ecu. Other suggestions ??
Normally if the security light continues to flash that means the key has not been programmed to the car. There is an RFID chip in the fob, and that chip's ID has to be stored in the car - it's an anti-theft thing.
IMO - I would suggest you read up more on key programming - it works for some, and some struggle to get the programming to work. And if it doesn't work for you, then consult a locksmith first before letting a mechanic run up diagnostic billing hours.
Thank you for your reply. I tried several times last night , with original key and 2 new keys. Plus the 2 new keys which came with an obd to program the chip. If the pwr door locks aren’t working or issues with gateway module will I still be able to go thru the processs of programming the keys? Unsuccessfull all the way around. I thought the original key battery was weak and changed that but still no luck.
Not by any means I know of. I have heard some locksmiths can. I think dealers want to swap out the ECU (at big expense). This info is based on my experience with the Lexus LX470 of the same generation - might be different for the SC
This code actually seems related to your problem since one of the reasons is a bad Security ECU
Since I don't know if you need to program your key to the security module, I would buy one for $15 and see if it resolves some of your issues. If it does, then you can have yours repaired, or pay to have the key programmed to it. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...24060&_sacat=0
I had my key programmed by an automotive locksmith for $85
Also, if the module does not have to be programmed to your key, you might have fixed your car for $15
So I was playing with the obd scanner sitting in the car when the door locks. It's like everything woke up, the fob connected to the car - steering wheel column would adjust, door locks worked, door chime was on, the security light turned off!! I had a working fob...tried starting car but no crank...that's another issue, was told starter needed to be replaced but I'm thinking more electrical , want to make sure everything works first before we go digging into the intake. Anyway I was able to program the other 2 keys!! Now the top was down ...and it wouldn't go up...I thought the engine had to be on ...my brother told me otherwise so I said wth....put the key in and the top closed, no problem!! What a great day😁. Now, after spending most of the morning and afternoon on it decided to put things away and shower up. Go back, and square one with the fob. What's new , is that the fobs, will beep if I hold the trunk button down and the lock button but that's it... before the "master" would beep holding down on the trunk... Now the original isn't doing anything.
I read in another post to try this thinking maybe that's what happened to get my fob to work, tried to do it again after it failed but nothing, still not recognized.
You got it working once. So, that means your facing the worst sort of problem - intermittent failure.
Once upon a time I worked as a certified mechanic. My experience back then with intermittent electrical problems usually turned out to be corrosion somewhere on the grounding circuit.
I'd look for corrosion at the battery and work your way to ECUs, etc. For an ECU the solution might be as easy as unplug and plug back in, and as the movement might scrape off enough to clear the problem. I freely acknowledge this is based on experience from a couple of decades ago. I have no idea how applicable it would be to the SC430. The advantage is it's zero cost (but, sorry - sucks up a bunch of time).
I would disconnect your battery for ten minutes and reset all your ecus/car computers
While you are at it, I would make sure your battery is properly charged (somewhere around13.3 volts)
my theory is that one of your ecu's (probably security) is on the frtiz and works intermittently
The other possibility is you have a broken wire in the communication bus. It might be a broken wire, or just a loose harness connection. It could also be corrosion in the connection.
Possibly someone previous to you, took something apart and didn't not put it back tightly.
I would look for old repairs or an area that doesn't look like it was put back together correctly (missing screws, un-level carpet, scratched plastic)
I must ask: have your car been in the flood or water leaked ? Do you have rodent infestation ? If you have either two problems, your SC will do the weird things.
I bought this car from the second owner I was told it needed a new starter was sitting for 7 months in the garage. She loved this car she had some history on it she was tearful when the tow truck left. Does look like they took it to the beach I did find sand in the trunk and a little bit on the inside flooring. I disconnected the battery all night reinspected cleaned the appropriate fuses unplugged the ecu, hooked up the battery and no change. Car does not recognize the key, some interior lights not working, auto door locks don't work, driver window does work?? Cleared codes scanned again with a b1214 door system bus code. Thinking body module? Should I just send the ecu in for rebuild? Next I'll take a look at the door modules and the body modules and inspect the connections.
I would start with the fresh battery. If the key is not programmed, it will crank the engine but will not start it. If you can not crank, either your battery or your starter.
