Default Roof issue

Roof issues
failure to open, starts dropping windows and opening trunk boot
starts to move front top connection about 10 millimetres the freezes
it will close again completely and trunk closes and front top relocks and windows close
almost like motor seize once it disconnect the latches at the top
but no prior indication activating normal prior

The roof ECU is recognizing a problem during the opening sequence, probably a bad switch or something like that.

Thanks Harold I need to look at the trunk lid as it fully opens I notice its seem slightly wobbly where the centre mounting (lock assembly is maybe I will tighten the assembly up maybe there is a switch in there but need a diagram of the associated switches
thanks for getting back I will deal with the obvious looseness first
cheers
Kevin

Yeah, look at the simple and cheap items first. There are a few threads that show all the ECUs, motors and switches involved. Just walk your way through the process and determine what failure in that area or part of the process is likely and work from there. Good luck.

In order to fix it, you really need access to Techstream. It will tell you which motor or sensor is wonky.

Take a look at this video and tell us at what point (using the second indicator) your top stops working.

From what it sounds like one of your motors is stuck. Or it could be working, but it is out of synch with the other motor

if I access the roof ECU in the trunk
Is it possible to check the limit switch inputs at the connectors or terminals
thanks

You really need TechStream to log the ETC during the failure to see which components or which assemblies are bad. I don’t think the multimeter will help. Your Lexus dealer can do a diagnosis. Get the ETC then you can decide if you want the dealer or independent shop to fix it.

Exactly where does the top sequence fail?

Thank you for your support I had a quote from a third party garage to check the fault codes they charge 164 Uk pounds plus 17 % tax
i decided this is madness yet I can afford it
i went online and found a techstream download for 15 pounds
it has now arrived as a Rar file presumably this is a zip file
i haven't yet done anything as need to find an unzip program
i haven't used the laptop with windows 7 for year
i mostly use iPads which cover most of my it needs
i have ordered a connector with a USB cable which will take a week to arrive
hopefully this works out but first step will be to unzip the rare file and instal it
thanks again I will update when I get set up
love the car but 40% of the reason to purchase is open top motoring
