Default 2002 sc430 top question

I just purchased an 2002 sc430 from a client as a second car for my wife. I see that the piece of the top is starting to loosen up a bit. Sorry as I don't know what this piece is called. I am pretty handy and joined this forum to assist. I would appreciate any feedback on this issue.

If you're handy, you should be able to spray-glue the vinyl back into place on your "package tray." It will likely be necessary to remove the tray in order to do it right, and since I haven't remove mine, I can't advise you on how to go about it. Someone on the forum likely has and will respond in time.

A more common problem on these trays is bubbles in the vinyl, which are easy to fix simply my popping them and pushing the vinyl back down.

Welcome to CL and the purchase of your wife’s new ride.
I noticed something else, did you pull on the back of the headrest?
I ask because it is coming out. They don’t do that on their own.
examine the package tray very closely, I wonder if someone recovered it…

I am not sure what you mean, but I haven't done anything. Just noticed that edge of that flap isn't "sticking" like the other side.

open your roof half way then stop when the package tray raises up. You will have a better view at that messed up part.

I understand now. Someone might have recovered it. I am unsure but it looks perfect except for that one corner which you can push back under. I am unsure what he meant about the headrests. Is there something different about this setup?

If I go this route, I need to research how to properly lube the top while I have the access. The car was extremely well taken care of and I plan on performing some sweet equity where I can to keep it going for many more years

Thanks. Seems this is a great group who can lend some valuable info for newbies like me who will likely tinker with these cars.

I felt on those headrests and they both seemed to be on there snug. Who knows.

I added new screws to the driver seat back the second day we had it and next I plan to replace the trunk shocks as they slowly lower.

What is the problem we are talking about? The white or the black?

thanks Jimmy :-)

I put a red box around the area protruding only a little…that back piece just snaps in place. To remove, pull gently from the bottom…not a big deal, just an observation.
and like Wilson said above, some interior adhesive should do the trick.
please post up some pics of your new beauty, when able :-)
see the pics below.

Appreciate it. I now see what you are saying. I will check it out some more and hopefully tackle the cement project this weekend.

Just for reference, here is a pic of the top and underside.
make sure you have access for the repair because you may need to remove the package tray.
