Hello. Because my antenna doesn't go down all the way after turning off radio, I decided to replace the antenna cable. I followed the procedure pressing AM and DISC simultaneously and then turning key to ACC to go to ANT mode and this supposed to extend the antenna all the way up to be removed but after doing the procedure, it doesn't extend the antenna all the way up and I can't remove it.
And idea?

chances are the plastic zip cable has broken inside the housing. How handy are you because the antenna will need to be pulled and opened to remove the old cable. This seems simple enough BUT, if you do it incorrectly, you could destry your antenna. And thats a junkyard visit because you wont want to spend $1,500.00 for a new one from the dealer. Let us know how you want to proceed.
I removed the antenna motor assembly apart. The cable looks fine, no broken pieces there. I pulled the antenna and noticed it gets stuck at one point (see picture). Used 0w40 and managed to pull it further but at the end no luck, still gets stuck there after pushing it in and pulling it out again. I connected the antenna motor back, tried ANT mode and still same issue.
Oh boy !
Maybe i misunderstood your original post but i thought you just wanted to replace the antenna-- no the whole assembly. No matter what avenue you take stubby antenna or telescopic , you would need the connections for it.
ie. you need the bottom housing where the motor is for the radio to get reception. The signal passes through the antenna and the 'shaft' that houses the telescopic and then proceedes through that connection on the side of the' shaft'.If you pull all this out, i don't know how you are going to get any signal to the radio.
As i said before i replaced my telescopic with a stubby. I pulled out the antenna with the plastic cable. I don't remember seeing a break at the end of the cable , so i assume i got it all. Reception is good with the new stubby.
When i turn the radio on/off i hear the motor cycling. This is the only thing i would correct-- i would unplug the motor but i thought it would be a real pain to get to.
No I wanted to change just the mast but since I couldn't get it to extend all the way up and then remove it with ANT procedure, i removed the motor to see if the plastic part is broken or not. And there's no broken piece. Just trying to find out why it's not extending all the way up.
Really easy to get to the motor. Search "sc430 antenna" in YouTube and you see one guy showing it in details.
Okay ordered antenna mast from Amazon. Replaced it. Everything is perfect except one thing. When antenna is going up, it doesn't make any noise, that's good. But when it is going down, the motor makes a lot of noise.
Any idea why this is happening?
Please help, I just want to get done with this antenna thing. Thank you in advance.
Tried to upload a video but can't. Uploaded an audio file. First 10 seconds is antenna going up noise that is normal. From second 10 is antenna going down that sounds loud and out of norm.
Interesting. I would have thought that more noise would have been generated going up than down, as that should be more difficult for it. I definitely didn't expect that noise. My guess is that is a motor or gear related noise, not the mast, but that doesn't rule out the mast causing that noise. It could be sticking and requiring more oomph than the motor/gears are designed for. So you might try lubing the mast by taking a rag and spraying silicone lubricate on it and wiping down the mast while it is up and then running it a few times.
When you had the mast out, did the mast move up and down past the sticking point without issue? Maybe that section is a bit swollen or bent in that area. So I'd also suggest trying to move it manually if you take it out again. If it does stick or resist at that point, get a refund and find a better mast.
Removed the mast. Took the motor apart and turned radio on and off with motor case off. At the end all I know is that it wasn't the antenna mask. It only makes noise when the plastic round piece that holds the mast inside the motor case is there. I removed that plastic case out, turned radio on and off and no noise. I lubed everything inside. After hours of spending time with this, somehow it was fixed and no noise. It's all good now although I have no idea why it was making noise.
