What would you experienced SC owners say the appropriate price range is for an ‘08 w 72k mi?
very well maintained w all up to date Svcs done (incl Tb/water pump etc) Starfire pearl Ext tan int Ext/Int condition at least 8.5/10

No mods; spider wheels, Almost new Falkens w less than 6k (no run flats)






No issues, no warning lights or codes. Everything works as it should. Since May 2018 have done: timing belt and accessories (Lexus 90k Svc), tranny svc, SS brakelines, motor & tranny mounts, (2) HID headlights, (2) Falken tires with only 3k miles, updated Navigation DVD, cabin filter and battery.

 

I would put that in the 16k-18k range. I just paid $22k for a 1-owner '08 with 25k miles.

 

tend to agree w you Boompa should be $16-17’ish - he’s asking about $3k more; think trying to recoup all his maint cost past couple yrs and close b/e from what he paid 2 yrs ago w approx $62k mi

Not because I own a particular model 08 but I am coming around to the idea that these are becoming collectors cars. I would not sell my PB 08 with 36k on it for anywhere near those amounts of money.

If you did, what what would you replace it with? Particularly the 06 and up models. And the PB’s.

I took mine in for service at the south county dealer and it attracted more attention than the new cars there.

I fixed mine. Stock it drove poorly. Average radio. Bumpy tires. Leaned on corners. No remote top or remote start. Orange low beam headlights. Too much cabin airflow with the top down. Speedo off. Battery died in storage. Medium strength brakes.

My point is a fixed low mile 06-10 to someone with a checkbook would be an excellent buy still.

300k miles of good left in the car for 10 cents a mile plus parts and maintenance is dirt cheap for a luxury car is it not?

Agreed, to a certain extent your local market dictakes price but 19 sounds about right for a clean 08.

so how bout this one below? Yes an 2002 but immaculate all maint and many repairs so should be absolutely nothing needed for long time - ‘02 2nd owner w 105k mi described below - have gotten to know the owners and he is meticulous
may $13-13.5 would be $6-6500 less than the 2008 and in perfect shape

Ask $13,500 - worth it? Is in near showroom condition, a Florida car which has Always garage kept and never smoked in. been babied/serviced by perfectionist owner. Absolutely Red reflects like a mirror, the Ecru white (creme) leather, excellent. not a single door ding or scratch. updated with Bluetooth for smartphone connectivity. professionally detailed twice a year, and in between waxed monthly - new MICHELIN tires, and OEM 2010 Chromed SC430 upgraded wheels.

All service history including:
All preventative maintenance complete: timing belt, battery, valve cover gasket, radiator, steering pump, engine and transmission mounts, synthetic oil, hoses, struts inner tie rod. 2nd owner past 10 years, driven low miles locally. The first owner purchased at local Lexus dealer. complete books and records from day of delivery. Absolutely Red and Ecru White interior. The interior looks gorgeous, as originally delivered.

Recent update 4-30-20:
just replaced OEM driver seat cushions and color matched interior color by VIN. Interior is like new. AC Evaporator replaced, freon recharged, low pressure steering pump replaced, front tie rod and 4 wheel alignment completed and differential fluid replaced. The shop said they had never seen an 02 SC like this. It's cosmetically and mechanically near perfect.















so what say you SC pros? Ask is $13,900 - prob can be had at $13

 

For this well maintained 2002, $13,000 is good buy. Just wish it were 2006+.

 

yes agree Gman but seems 06+ all
a) harder to find in exceptional condition and
b) all seem to be more like 18-20k and up (and given it’s a 3rd car weekend fun cruiser, hard for me to go another @$6k or more to find

in no hurry so can wait but life getting shorter (I had malignant melanoma surgery in Jan; hopefully prognosis good)

likely will keep my mint 99 LS below, so the SC really for fun as weather permits

In looking at ‘02-05 vs ‘06+ SCs, wondering if I’ll really miss the 06+ enhancements (they 6 v 5 sp the taillights- really not a lot more and the 02-05 SC 5-sp is exactly same as my ‘99 LS 5-sp which is pretty terrific even if not the 06+ 6-sp

Well, looking at your LS, I'd say that you'll carry on the legacy of meticulous care for the SC, whichever one you choose. You just have to decide how important the head and tail lights and the 6 spd vs 5 spd transmission are to you, as those are really the main differences between the two groups (2002-2005 & 2006-2010). I've owned my 2002 since 2006 and still love it. I suspect that whichever one you choose, you'll do the same. The 2002 is a great car.

This red one looks really good and they have a decent price on it. Once you're happy with a decision, make it and don't look back. Best of luck and let us know what you decide.

 

Your scalp surgery was wicked! My dermatologist has been monitoring my bald spot for years. Hopefully I can avoid what you went through. Very sorry to hear about your dad too. Alzheimer's is a horrible disease. Kudos for being able to provide his care!

On to the fun stuff...I've only owned my 2008 for four years. In 2016, I paid $30K for a pristine example with 45K miles. I likely paid too much, but it was, and still is, flawless. I have zero buyer's remorse and I'm impressed each time I drive it! Since I haven't owned, or even driven, the 2002-2005 model, I can't compare and contrast, but generally, the newer example with the least amount of miles should be a priority, and here's why: The 2002 example you detailed sounds great, considering all the maintenance and repairs that have been done, but that is my only concern. Unless the service provider, specifically the tech who has been working on it, was very good at his trade, I would worry about reliability. I've been working on cars for over 50 years and I know how to do things right. When service providers are doing work, they know how to do things fast and cheap, in order to increase their profits. So, unless the maintenance is done with care, the vehicle is not going to be as reliable as one that has only required preventive maintenance (done properly).

That's my two cents, for whatever it's worth. Bottom line, you will love whichever one you choose! BTW...love your LS!
