Called my Lexus dealer about setting up an appointment for an oil change and disconnecting those ugly RDL. Will be doing this after I get back from a trip around June 28th. Talked to the service guy (not the guy who gets dirty, but the guy that makes you feel like a King because you own a Lexus) about lubricating the roof components while it was in for service. He said "Sure, we could spray some WD-40 on it for you" Really...WD-40!!! Thought something in the line of some silicone lubricant would be what they would recommend. Any thoughts?

WD-40 fixes everything...heck, have him lube the leather while they are there...
they are gonna charge you $100 to turn off the DRL. You can easily do it with the TechStream software and connector.
you need a laptop and $20-$25 for the cable and software.
then you need about $5 to go purchase a can of spray white lithium grease at Walmart.
A spray can of silicone, for the rubber, should be about the same price or you could get a tube and apply it with your finger or a clean towel.

the dealer may do the entire job for about $300.

Last time I looked at those joints, the grease looks white so it should be lithium grease (not 100% sure though). If your service advisor tell you that they will spray WD40, go to another dealer. WD40 will attract dirt like a magnet, and that'll do more harm than good.

Exactly. WD-40 was developed as a penetrating oil.

I use silicone and white lithium grease on mine. Read it in some posts on here, try searching sc430 top maintenance

I've read krytox grease keeps the rubber from drying out. That grease is used to lube rubber "O" rings, seals etc.

I use Gummi Pflege stick on my weather stripping and rubber seals. It's made for precisely this application. The stick has sponge tip on it which makes for an easy and clean application.

On nearly every car I've used it on there was a noticeable difference in wind noise.

Highly recommended.

I'm new to these cars, can you post more detail about techstream and which cable to get? What else does it let you do? I was under the impression these ECUs were locked down pretty tight.

Also, in terms of lubricating things, I've used "Fluid Film" for years on various things and its magical.

Krytox is good. In my former place of work, we applied Krytox on rubbing surfaces on the panoramic sunroof.

Of course nothing beats Shin-etsu Grease from Honda, however they are so expensive, $17 for a small tube, well worth it.

mandyfig post #13 is spot on with the Honda 08798-9013 silicone grease.. It is highly recommended on the LS forum as well. A tube of it is expensive but it will last for every. Just a thin film coating applied with a gloved hand once or twice a year and the rubber weather stripping will stay just as soft as the day it was made. Great Stuff
