After 17 years, is the SC 430 Dated or Classic looking?
Guys
What do you think? After all these years, has the SC 430 shape
body grown on you or is the SC430 finally getting dated?
Keep in mind I have owned 4 of them so you know I am a SC 430
Fan. I do notice I see them less on the road and as the years goes by
I personally think they will continue to be a very interesting unique
coupe from Lexus.
What do do you think? Do you see many SC 430 these days
in your town ? On the road ?

Actually I see more on the road today than just a few years ago. Many more 02-05 cars versus 06-09 and I’ve yet to see a 2010 in person. But I suppose that’s just relative to the production numbers of the early years. I used to see a 04 Pebble Beach Azure Blue in a nearby neighborhood mall but it’s disappeared lately. Two other SCs reside within a few blocks of my home.
While the SC curvy “shape” is somewhat out of style in today’s more angular era, it’s cyclical so it will come back. As for me I’m considering debadging the trunk lid of its Lexus and SC430 logos to make the car more mysterious. But removing the center “L” logo means into the body shop and a more permanent alteration. Not quite ready for that.

The front end, from the A-pillar forward, is generic early-2000's Japanese. From there back, it has always looked more Italian, and I find the rear 3/4 view endlessly fascinating. So many delicate and intricate curves.
See? Generic....

Lead Lap
It is still one of my favorite cars & I've owned mine for 13 years now.

I actually thought was ugly when I first saw it. Over the years my appreciation has changed, but I was really leaning toward a Mercedes SL when I bought mine. Ultimately, I just couldn't take on the challenge of maintaining a Mercedes, so I went with Toyota reliability.

Took awhile
It took me awhile to warm up to it but it kept growing on me and then I drove one. Have had mine less than a week and find something new to like every day. Love driving it, not as sporty as the convertibles I’ve owned in the past, but neither am I.

I was into the SC430 since I first saw it at the auto show, but couldn't afford one at that time. In certain colors, it looks best due to the curves.
I see it maybe once every few months here in the bay area and have only seen a pebble beach 1 time.

Actually, if you look at MBs design language today, they have moved away from sharp angles and are more flowing lines and curves ( C, E and GLC class as well as AMG GT). I do not think our SCs design is dated at all.

Pit Crew
As I have mentioned before, we winter in Naples Florida and I see at least 5 or 6 430’s each and every day. Up home I am ucky if I see one during a given week (not counting my 2007). Location, location, location.

I always found the body to be unique.
I personally owned 4 of them and each time
I sold my SC, I ended up buying another one.
That being said, I think if I ever sold my WGC 02
I will probably move to a Red LC 500 in a few years
The SC430 has really aged well in my opinion.
I always like the car with the top up more than
with the top down.
I just hope as the car ages a few more years, the new generation
of owners will continue to keep it Factory Original.
I think if the car was ever “ Blinged our” then it will
lose the appeal of the original design .
After all these years, still love the SC430
The love affair continues

Naples?!? That's where mine lived for its first 16 years. You have probably seen it around, and now the PO drives a red '05.
