It's Mine Now
Today I hit the mother load. Today I drove home from Tulsa our (new to us) 2006 SC 430 with 60,552 on the clock. It was a Doctor's wife's car and it has all the original paperwork, I mean window sticker, purchase price, wheel lock code still in Lexus bag and updated 2017 Lexus wheels with a new set (1400 miles) of Pirelli Pzero Nero all season run flate's, a new Durcell Battery in Jan of 18 (don't know much about this battery. It is indeed TigerEye Pearl according to the window sticker not TigerEye Mica. It came with the summer run flat tires ($400) Rear Spoiler ($440) and Preferred Accessary Package (Trunk Mat, Cargo Net and Wheel Locks ($194) as options. Out the door sticker with Delivery of $67,039.00 The Only issue is the Nav Door. It will not close? which originally showed up at 57,962 on 16 Sep 2015 and the owner declined the repair.

I will post some photos next week if we get a sunny day and I can take some. Snow in the forecast tonight and Saturday. Here is my issue! I don't know how to post pictures here to the forum. I don't have a photo bucket account where I can upload them to and then post? I can email some photos to someone that does if they want to post them?

Congrats Dennis! Welcome to the Lexus "LS and SC" owners club! We both own 2010 LS's and 2006 SC430's. Small world! To me, owning these two amazing vehicles is the perfect setup - one to drive for serene quiet and comfort, and the other to take out when the sun is shining or on warm summer evenings.
The Nav door jam may be simple to fix (door popped out of it's track) or more serious (motor shot). Having that door open all the time probably wouldn't be a showstopper to me anyway. I did add the backup camera setup to my SC (highly recommended and fairly reasonable), so I like to have the Nav door open when I back up anyway.
Enjoy that new Tiger Eye SC!

Thanks. I have a question regarding the 06. I am not sure if I am missing a part? In the trunk under the mat where the jack is on the left/drivers side in the black tray there is 8 inch slot (2nd slot in on left side) that appears to have been made for something to slip down in. Not very big maybe index figure round in size maybe 7-8 inches? Was there something that went in there?
How hard is it to determine if it has just jumped the track or if one of the 2 little servo motors has gone south? How hard is to get back on/in the track?
Any Thoughts

you will need to remove the NAV screen to confirm.
does the screen tilt function still operate?

if it doesn’t tilt by pushing the tilt button, I suppose it might still have something to do with the tracks.
i can tell you there are two different motors for these functions.
check fuses first along with disconnecting the battery.
Do you have the ability to pull the Radio and NAV screen?
if so, you could swap the NAV screens with your sons car.
is that possible?

I don't think swapping Nav screens with the son is an option. He is in VA and I am in AR. I don't think it is a fuse issue as the Original Owner brought it to Lexus of Tulsa's attention back on 16 Sep 2015 when it had 57,962 miles on it and they wanted (I am not kidding) $9,999.77 to fix it and she decline (ya think). I am guessing that before they told the owner it would cost a cool 10 grand to fix it they checked the fuse's? It might very well have jumped off the track. I have been watching You-Tube Videos on how to pull the Nav unit but am still setting on the fence trying to decide if this is something I could tackle?

i would like to see where the door and screen are positioned.
When I purchased the 2002 SC430, the NAV door and screen would not move. I replaced the door motor but it was still broken. I ended up replacing the entire unit with a used one purchased on eBay for about $300. If you go this route, you can purchase a unit from any SC430 and with any color door. You can easily use your door on the new unit. I do believe the lcd screen might be better in the 2005-2010, someone else can chime in, if they like.
Besides ebay,
Car-part.com is an excellent source to look for a new unit.
here are some examples of a unit on car-part.com.
let me know if I can answer any additional questions on this issue.
i used the first car, 2005, $272, as the example. The car was rear ended and totaled.
used parts can be an excellent source for parts. Salvage yards also provide a warranty.

I will get a picture and try and post it. Not today as we are under a winter weather watch. I asked Rick but you might have the same thing on your 07. I have a slot in the black tray where the jack is located on the left/driver side 2nd slot in that is about 8 inches long and it appears something maybe index finger round went in it. Am I missing a part?

For me it was the nav motors as well. I ended up sending the original unit out for repair but in the interim I purchased a used unit from eBay and it is still working. My original is still in the box lol. Not that we use it much (mostly use Waze). We keep the nav door closed 99% of the time. If it's better you, pull the door down with your finger so that it stays in the closed position until you figure out what you want to do. At least then the dash looks finished. Looking forward to seeing pics of the car!
