Welcome to ClubLexus.. Read through the FAQ and by all means if you need help there is always someone nice enough here to help out.. Congrats on the new car.. When you get a chance could you post your feelings/thoughts on the difference between your old SLK and the SC.. Might just help someone out who is shopping between cars..
Thanks!
Your introduction on this board is perfect timing for me. I am considering an SLK 32 AMG but have been leaning towards an SC 430. It is one or the other.
I have been tossing back and forth for about a month. I have test driven both several times in the last month and so has my wife.
I live in Ancaster, Ontario near Toronto so we have real winters like yourself.
My thoughts on SC430 vs SLK 32 AMG are as follows:
Interior luxury: SC 430
Exterior attractiveness: tie
Prestige: SLK 32 AMG
Reliability: SC 430
Velocity: SLK 32 AMG
Price: SLK 32 AMG
Maintenance: SC 430
I would really appreciate your thoughts Johan since you have owned both!!!!
I look forward to hearing from you.
Cheers, Nick
Consequently, more prestige tends to go to the SC430. Don't get me wrong... I think the SLK is a great car. I just don't think most people even equate it to the SC, much less think it is more prestigious. I understand that it performs very well, and it's very attractive outside, but the interior looks pretty dated.
Of course, discipline would be the best source of info.
Glad to have you aboard.

These two cars are totally different! The only thing they have in common is the roof (and that they are both two seaters more or less).
The SC430 is a heavy luxury cruiser that does not sound anything even if you floor it. And even if you floor it the car does not feel that fast. On the other hand it is a really comfortable car with all commodities you could possibly wish for.
The SLK32 is amazingly fast, has a pretty bumpy ride, in other words: The AMG is pure fun and games.
So it should be a pretty easy decision; do you want a luxury ride to cruise in or a monster (0-60mph in 4.7s) in a SLK suite?
You should also note that the SLK32 will be replaced next year by a totally new SLK55 (new body style). Meaning values may drop pretty heavily. More on economy; they both have the same fuel economy but the SLK32 has a much, much cheaper insurance.

I have not forgotten your advice, your e-mails are saved in my inbox.
I am still looking and test driving. The SC430 still ranks at the top of my list.
The other issue is that I need to sell my current car to make space in my garage.
At this point, I would probably order an '04 and get it the way I want it.
A few days ago I was in London and Mercedes had an SLK AMG that I test drove. It had a lot of zip and was quite attractive as well. BUT, in the end, it did not have the luxury of the SC 430.
