Default Battery cut-off switch -- bad idea?

As a LuxLink owner, I'm subject to pretty strong parasitic draws which drain the battery after a few days. I'm thinking of adding a battery cutoff switch. Where I park the car there is no electricity available so I can't run a battery tender.

Other than having to re-program the clock, seats, etc., is there any other reason this would not be a good idea?

Thanks!

You will not have an alarm and you will have to open door with key to unlock hood. Seems like a lot of work I just use the battery tender

Highly suggest you get a battery maintainer instead. Easy plug and play. Tops off the battery and maintains it. No need for re-setting due to battery loss.

I have the Die Hard solid state maintainer with easy connects.

All I have to say about it, is don't skimp on it. Make sure you get one that can handle the max amperage of the car. Poor quality one could cause electric issues, Or worse a fire if it gets too hot. If you buy one that is rated at the correct amperage then there will be no issues.

Don't forget that a battery disconnect will lose the memory seat position presets…..

Thanks for the replies all. I hadn't thought about the alarm (good one Mister Blister), but I don't think it has ever gone off in the 12 years I've owned this car. Plus the kill switch is definitely going to make it harder to steal. After being a garage queen for a dozen years, its going to be parked on the street now in the shade so even a solar charger isn't going to work and probably would get stolen anyway.

Oh, and Bgw 70, dude you are my new hero!

Why not a disconnect for the few circuits that are causing your excessive draw. Might be one or two fuses? Maybe run a few toggle switches to an easy location like the bottom of the dash on the drivers' side and simply flip the switch to disconnect only the concern power.
No need to disconnect everything.

There's been many discussions about the parasitic draw on this car but I don't think anyone has determined exactly what causes it (although LuxLink owners are much worse off). I have another car and wired up a fuse disconnect toggle (for different reasons), If someone could pinpoint the right fuses, that would be a great idea.

In the meantime,
this switch this switch
got excellent reviews on Amazon, and fits pretty well, although it helps to slide the battery over a bit and work the angle of the switch so it doesn't get hit with the hood strut. Must be horizontal switch, not vertical.
