Timing belt kit - Half price

I just had my TB & WP job done with Transmission fluid with fiter and gasket replaced, Mobil One oil changed, new thermostat, brakes checked and tires rotation by my trusted mechanic and the bill was $525 out the door. Add $170 for the TB kit, total cost is less than $700 (only thing I didn’t get was a car wash).
Lexus dealer would have charged me double if not more.
Boy, I’m happy.

Here is everything I purchased...now I just need some cool fall weather to arrive. Probably November for me here in central Florida...October if I’m lucky.

Boy, I wish I had a local trusted mechanic like that! My bill will be almost $1000 including taxes!
The only good thing about going to the dealership is that I had an airbag module recall on my car. They had the part in stock (had ordered it for someone else who was not coming in for another few weeks) and did the recall work at the same time.
When I get my car and parts back, I will post a picture of the timing belt for comparison sake.

also, what kind of anti freeze did your mechanic use?

I figured it cheap insurance instead of an engine repair :+)
I'm pretty sure the water pump gasket was in the kit.
I only spoke with the mechanic briefly about the condition of the TB and more about the airbag module recall because he had half of my dash out!
I am not sure if he removed the rad. I asked him how hard the crank pulley was to remove and he said it came off quite easily.
He said he used the Lexus/Toy crank pulley tool and a wrench which leads me to believe he did it from below with the car on the hoist.
I am planning on doing a complete fluid change (engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant, and maybe rear diff) when I get the car back tomorrow. Would you recommend the Lexus/Toyota specific antifreeze?
Thanks!

I would recommend that type of coolant, not necessarily the Toyota brand.
someone help me with the correct type, is it HOAT?
i looked it up a while back but forgot the type.
thanks!

The gasket came with the kit. To tell the truth, I did not know what kind of anti freeze he used. I trusted him, he probably used Toyota brand. He even handed me a box with all components he replaced. I haven't opened the box, yet.

Just to avoid any potential confusion regarding Bgw70's question regarding the gasket, the water pump does come with a gasket, but the rectangular inlet portion of the water pump shown below does not come with a gasket in the OEM kit, Toyota/Denso Sealant is used as discussed in a previous thread.

Timing belt kit - half price
Here are some pics of my old timing belt.
There was no dealer record that it had ever been replaced and no replacement sticker on the cam covers.
I am no TB expert but it sure looks like it could have put in a few more rpm!
What do you think?
Also, dealer charged me $36 for 2 quarts of coolant.
This is my "old" timing belt, 72k miles.

As mentioned previously, the timing belt taken out of my ’06 at ~77k miles looked almost brand new. So, could my belt and your belt have lasted more miles, I’m sure they could have. With that said, I can’t vouch for the longevity of everything else that the timing belt rotates. All it takes is one of those items to fail and/or seize and no matter what the belt looks like it would probably snap in two.

Guys I have an SC 02 with 46K and I had the T/B and WP + other parts
And accessories replaced in 2016 which would put the car at 14 years old
When I took a look at the belt, it looked also close to new .
However, any rubber parts deteriorate over time and
I have changed all my T/B on my cars as a rule as soon as it hits
12 years or older even with low mileages.
Paying $1,000 is really small insurance to ensure you dont
get stuck somewhere with a blown engine is how I look at this.
Which reminds me I probably should change out all my
radiiator hoses which I have not change.

Gentlemen, thanks for the timing belt thoughts!
I think the comment about the other components potentially failing may be more relevant since they are not made in Japan, Canada, or USA.
I am glad I had purchased and had the thermostat replaced as the tech noted some corrosion on the thermostat.
In regards to the coolant question above, Toyota carries two types:
Long Life C0009-00119-S and
Super Long Life C0009-00120-S.
The Long Life comes as a concentrate that you can dilute to whatever strength you want.
The Super Long Life is premix at 55/45.
I think the Long Life is meant for pre 2004 cars and the Super is compatible if the cooling system is flushed before refilling.
The Lexus dealer charged me more than 3X per unit than what I paid at the Toyota dealer.

edit: you're right I'm wrong. It is a HOAT, hybrid organic acid technology. Because it uses ethylene glycol and OAT in their coolant.
