For better or worse I'm an OEM guy for something like this that you do as preventative maintenance every 10 years or 90,000 miles. It's matter of a couple of more dollars per month over the life span of the kit and gives me peace of mind. I did a quick search for "ECCPP TBK298WPT reviews" and this came up:

https://www.bbb.org/losangelessilico...and-complaints

I can't vouch for the accuracy of the reviews, but perhaps it's something you may want to take into consideration.

thanks for posting those complaints...saving $80 is not worth the risk.
I’ll be using this one when I replace my TB WP this winter. I will also replace all of the hoses, belts and thermostat while I am in there. I have learned over the years to just replace any “wearout” part you remove.

Rockauto and Amazon have the same price.

I will make the purchase from Rockauto because it is very specific as to which brand parts I will receive. Amazon may substitute other brands...

GmanSC, so glad you reminded me to purchase the parts for this job.
below is a list of parts I just ordered from Rockauto.
I went ahead and ordered the drivebelt idler pulley and tensioner since the 2002 is now at 98k miles.
the rest are for the 2007 which only has 33k miles but 11 years on the Parts.

It's a nice kit. It even includes the thermostat gasket that the #1 best selling kit doesn't.

However, it looks like it is missing the Timing Belt Tensioner so you need to add on $37 to make it more of an apples to apples package comparison.

My fear is if I get an non oem kit with so many parts, one of them might go bad and mess up my entire engine. The $3000/$50 risk reward is high enough for me to consider it, but not high enough for me to do it.

Guys, thanks for the input. I was kind of wonder why this kit is so cheap. I guess It's what you pay is what you'll get.
It reminds me of my Corolla serpentine belt. I bough the cheap belt, installed and 10,000 miles down the road, when I was in the shop for oil change, my mechanic pointed out that the belt was cracked badly. I ended up paid for another belt. Lesson learned.
So I will go with the more expensive kit. Compare with what the dealer will charge, it's a winner.

Do you guys ever get $10 off coupons from O'Reilley's? I'm not sure why, but they send me one every quarter or so. I get $10 off a $20 purchase.

I think it is because I get them as rewards for buying stuff, but I don't think I buy that much stuff from them to keep receiving them.

Anyways, I am using them to buy the little things for my timing belt change. Last time I bought the hoses, this weekend I am going to buy the thermostat.

It's true that Oreilley's is generally more expensive than online, but at 50% off, it isn't.

I appreciate BGW posting what he paid at Rock auto so I can get an apples to apples comparison and not have to look up all those parts myself.

Does the SC need a thermostat gasket? The Aisin doesn't look like it comes with one

yes, they usually come with the thermostat. They are round and fit on the outside edge of the thermostat. They have a slit in the inside of the round rubber gasket.

The reason the Aisin kit doesn't come with a thermostat gasket is because it doesn't come with a thermostat either. Even though there is nothing wrong with replacing the thermostat at the time the timing belt is changed, it is easily accessible without removing any other engine components and can be replaced as needed. Some engines have the thermostat buried in the engine so it is best to replace at the time the belt is done.

Thanks guys! That was nice of you to take the time to explain.

I was actually asking BGW if he needed to order one, since it wasn't in his shopping cart.

LoL, good call Darryl. The Aisin thermostat did not include the gasket and I must admit I am a little disappointed they didn’t include it.

when I did the 2002 TB and WP I used the Gates kit and a different thermostat. That thermostat came with the gasket...

i guess i will pick up a gasket at the local parts store.

My Aisin TB & WP kit came today, no thermostat. Don’t think I need one. Also came with the kit is details installation instructions with illustrations. Nice. Will have my trusted mechanic does the replacement. It will be good for another ten years.

Hi Gman

dont forget to get the thermostat replace as well.
Typically this is the part that can go bad
over time and then your SC will overheat.

The part art is no more than $8 and it is not
worth getting the engine damaged.

Default Timing belt kit - half price

I am getting my timing belt replaced at the dealer using the Aisin TKT-021 kit as above (2005 SC with 72k miles).
First thing I noted is the difference in labour time suggested in the kit and the by dealer.
Dealer is charging me 4.5 hours for a belt replacement, kit time is 2.7? (see attached pic)
Dealer also suggested thermostat replacement was not required but I bought one anyway based on the suggestions above.
