Hey All just purchased a 2003SC. I am told the navigation system is shot. Everything else is good and a very nice ride. According to the dealer it was cross wired when jumped causing the issue. I trust this company and got a good deal but was wondering how to fix this or is it really worth it. Appreciate any feedback.

i really don’t think it is worth it to make the NAV operational...cell phone GPS is much easier to use and is always updated...
do a search on NAV and you will have plenty to read.
there are many parts on eBay...also, look for the gen4 if you decide to make it operational
Your costs could be your time and a few hundred bucks. Or a few thousand depending on what was fried. If it just the player in the trunk, it the former. If the display was fried it’s the latter. In addition, the GPS is DVD based and the final update ever for the Gen4 systems was in 2015.
That’s correct the Gen 4 systems which were in Sc430s till 2009 are no longer updated by LexusUSA. The current generation in Toyota/Lexus cars is Gen 10. The last Gen 4 update was in 2015 and Lexus says ...no future update are planned. Newer generations, even those that are DVD based are not backwards compatible.
Sort of like parts of the car’s OEM radio. When was the last time you even saw a cassette tape?
i just made an offer for $9 from this dealer and it auto accepted. I guess the price has really come down since Lexus doesn’t sell them anymore. https://www.ebay.com/itm/282613285174
JohanH...please share the part numbers. One for the DVD player and the for the DVD disc you upgraded to.
I am in Europe so my partnumbers will differ from yours. That's both for the maps and the units.
I exchanged both in my 2004 GS300 and my 2001 SC430 the original navigation unit with more recent Prius ones.
For me (Europe) 86841-50100 was a plug and play swap. I believe the US version would be 86841-50090.
My 2018 DVD (West-Europe) is marked: PZ445-X03EU-0M 86271-60A119
If you look up Lexus / Toyota map updates with the picture of your (now new) startup screen, it will give you the code of the map for your region.

86841-50090 Yep that’s the Gen 4 Navigation unit many of us have upgraded to. Our problem is there are no newer updates of the Software, that is the DVD themselves in the USA. Software in the USA newer than the 2015 version is all USB or SD card based and not backwards compatible with the older GEN 4 systems.
It it might be interesting experiment to try taking data from a new SD and laying it down onto a DVD to see if the older hardware would read the new data. Naming conventions, data structures would probably be all wrong though. Hmmmm.

Reason: corrected date in error should have been 2015

Sorry Bob but I do not think this is correct. The Gen 2/3 was in 02,03,04 and Gen 4 was in 05 up. Gen 4 last update was 2015. I have one.

agreed, that would be cool!!!
map data is most likely a completely different format...would be nice if we could just burn map data from the National Geospacial Agency website, https://www.nga.mil/Pages/Default.aspx
