Default 2002 SC430 suspension ??

I recently acquired a 90k miles SC and hear the rear suspension clunk when going over something like a speed bump or sharp bump. Pretty loud. I suspect rear shocks and shock mounts, so I'll fit front struts as well. Is the KYB set up the way to go? What else do I need to be aware of please? Sway bar bushings? Drop links? Anything else in the rear?? Any tips appreciated.

The sway bar end links is definitely one of the places to suspect. You'll also want to make sure the exhaust isn't clanking into something.

If sway bar bushings are dry and brackets loose you might check these

Default Rear suspension clunk

OK so I posted about suspecting rear struts and mounts but see this in the FAQs (I just joined) about the rear suspension clunk revisited... Apparently this is a thing and the dealers know about it and goes wayyyy back. I'm wondering if my fairly newly acquired 2002 SC has been fixed?? This thread could have saved me lots of dough if I don't need shocks/struts and it's some "cushion" replacement?? Who knows about this? What should I do? I have a great mechanic, what's the intelligence on the latest and possibly updated part numbers please?

Meanwhile I'm digging into the FAQs and tons of threads but this car is pretty nice and fun to drive. Already changed the wheels, had a bent rim or two and it wobbled so I put on some 18 x 8" wheels from a Infiniti G35 that look way better IMHO... 245 Michelins, lifetime alignment from Firestone and lifetime balance and rotate so things are much better in the driving department. Also swapped out some shredded speakers so now I'm rocking out too! 90k miles, black and tan 2002 for $10k and in very good if not excellent shape.

But this rear end clunk is not good and I'd like to eliminate that. Gang please fill me in on these cushions and what's up with that.

Thank you

....since you have a very good mechanic, I would let him look at it it first, before you bought anything. He should be able to tell you, if you have worn bushings or if it's the shocks, it could be a combo of both

Thanks for the reply texsexlex, can you detail these bushings please? And what is the "cushion" described in the previously mentioned thread about clunk in rear suspension? I'm wondering what parts I'll need. Where do the bushings go please?
Thanks,
Marc

....there are a few different bushings in the rear, for example, the sway bar link/bushings......this is where the good mechanic comes in. If you have him check the car on a lift, he'll be able to look at the total under carriage and then be able to see which bushings might need replacing. The clunk sound might be something very simple to something complex. I would concentrate on looking for the culprit, then go from there
