Default Ignition Key Lost Security Programming

I had a weird problem. one of my keys lost the ability to start the car.
The remote unlocking works just fine to open the doors but the security light cam it just wouldn't start.

I was able to reprogram it with the instructions I found here but I really am wondering what could have caused the problem.

Thanks

Bob

This is a good topic to discuss, our keys are the old style and there is no battery to replace...am I right? The newer generation, you had to replace the battery when the car senses the battery signal is weak...

My 02 fob has a battery in it but it is only for unlocking functions (& windows). Is that what you are referring to Mandyfig?

As far as I know all key fobs have a battery in them . The chip that needs to be seen by the immobilizer is passive does not need to use battery power
