SC430 Vented Hood

SC430 Vented Hood
Hey everyone, so I will start on my next project which will be to R&R this vented hood I scored from a previous member of this forum. I was told they were from a BMW, and my research shows they are a match to the BMW GTRS3. It needs a little bit of shop time, as you can see from the chipped corners and the crack above one of the vents. I've talked to a friend that just opened a shop and he's willing to take it on. My plan is to repair and paint it black. Then carbon fiber the vents, which will match a rear diffuser and roof spoiler that I plan to attain in the future. Still trying to decide which body kit is in my future. Anyway, let me know your thoughts and suggestions. If anyone has a good idea how much this hood refurb should run me, let me know, please. Want to make sure I'm not getting robbed. Thanks!

....great buy Shawn, I remember when he posted it for sale....so are all the damaged areas fiberglass? I would think the biggest cost would be paint & I've had mine repainted for $250, with a blend into the fenders. So maybe another $200 (?) for the damage.....my guess would be in the neighborhood of $400-500........I always wondered who snatched it up before I could get it...lol

My guy says media blasting, then bondo filler, hand sanding, and should be good to go for paint. Then CF vents. Then swap out this hood and change washer lines and fire lining. As for snatching up the hood. Yeah I made the trip: Chicago to NYC/NJ and scored it within two days. Nonstop driving. Stayed one night and headed right back home. About 1600 miles in two days (and $75 in *!?!*%# NJ tolls- complete rip off!), and it barely "squeezed" into the rear of my Mazda CX-5. I mean had only 1-2 centimeters clearance. Almost thought I'd have to strap it to roof. In long run, I was more upset about the tolls. We arrived late at night and so many bridge closures and roadwork, went in circles for two hours thus going over same toll roads over and over again. Triple and Quadruple charges. Tried to dispute with iPass... no luck.

Hey Shawn, you are a smart guy, so I know you have a reason.
Why did you opt for a BMW hood instead of adding vents to your SC hood?

Ha! I never claimed to be a "smart guy," but thank you. The hood is actually from an SC430 and the previous owner installed the BMW vents into it. I want to keep my OEM hood pristine so in the future I can either sell or keep as a back up. This orange hood was already completed by a previous owner and he needed to "unload" it, so I grabbed it. As for his choice of vents from a BMW, i think it's a good compliment to the lines of the SC430. The particular vents you posted are nice too, but a little too large in my opinion.

That makes so much more sense, I was wondering how a BMW hood was going to fit on your car. As for keeping your origional hood stock, so you can go back if you want, that makes even more sense. Further proof, you are a smart guy!
