Default Reading Codes

Is there a way to read the error codes on the SC without a code reader?

You can go to AutoZone and they will do it for you for free. However, since I have a GS and SC I invested in a code reader (that also clears the codes) for about $15 and it's been worth it's weight in gold. It's saved me so much time and money.

i think you might be referring to the days when you could get the system to flash the cel light and you could read the codes. I am not sure and believe those days are behind us.

as Kevin said, just go pick one up.

I really like this one, for a good GENERIC reader. it is inexpensive, dependable and easy to use.

I
have bought a couple and given them out as presents.

If you are looking for something more brand specific, you can usually find that kind of stuff on ebay.

How about this...how much will Lexus charge you to read and reset codes?
How much did you spend on your car?
How much is it worth to you?

i spent $25 on Tech Stream
$40 on an old XP laptop to run Tech Stream
$75 on a good code reader
$15k on the car.

if you have codes, the car has a problem, are you fixing the problem or a mechanic?

i have saved thousands of $$$ working on my own car.

Default Code Reader

Thanks for the response.
I am not trying to buy the cheapest reader, just looking for a good source. I do find most folks on here to be very helpful and respectful.

I have an OBD reader from Harbor Freight as well, around $70. A very good investment. Ask my friends.
