AmyLeigh, there are a couple of independent Lexus focused shops in the Dallas area (which is where it sounds like you are located). They are founded by Lexus certified mechanics and do good work for cheaper than the dealerships. I can definitely vouch for at least one of them (located in Plano).
I'm glad to hear that you got the issue resolved and got it resolved before the alternator took out your battery (those aren't cheap either). This is definitely the time of year that it is good to have a convertible in Texas, too bad that time is short.
Glad many of us were correct with the diagnosis. I swapped my alternator a few years back (when I had the problem I described earlier) for a OEM Denso by an independent mechanic shop I use for all my work. If I recall, it was about $350 out of the door with a 1 year warranty on parts and labor.
Davenport Motor Co on Plano Parkway and just west of Coit does excellent work and are willing to work with you. They really stuck with my top problem last year. (It was an intermittent problem that took quite some work to diagnose and then fix.)
Drumroll, pls. Alternator and a belt. They said nothing about the battery. If you guess the cost of this repair you can have the car. I kid. $1100.00
Thank you all for the advice in my time of need.
Until next time,
Amy
....man I'm glad that I'm pretty handy with the tools... most of the time...lol.....I paid $155 for alternator @ Autozone w/lifetime warranty & a couple of hours under the car
