Tail light exchange
OK 2004sc, Maybe I'm a little confused. What is the reason you want 2006+ tail lights?
All 2006+ tail lights have built in LED's, therefore you MUST HAVE a new harness for them. To avoid the dash error light with these built in LED's in the 2006+ lamp assembly, you need the Trunk ECU. If you do not buy the trunk ECU then you can black tape the dash error light. Hope that's a simple enough explanation. I, on the other hand, kept my old 2002 tail lights, blacked them out, and replaced the bulbs with error free LED's. Since they are error free (the proper resistance), I get no dash error light.

Seriously, I just got to reading about this exchange and thought it sounded neat. Plus, I like to wrench on cars so I'm always looking for something that I haven't tried before. Problem is, I'm an old retired accountant and I want to do it all for the least cost. But, after reading the response about the LEDs being built into the light assembly, I understand now the need for the new ECU.
Appreciate all the response from everyone. These forums are always helpful and filled with good guys and gals who have lots of experience. Guess I'll fork over my $1,200 for parts and have a little fun.

Haha. Your original post said that you wanted the 2006+ tail lights. I hope you understand that the reason most people upgrade to these is b'c they have BUILT-in LEDs. Maybe you didn't know that aspect. No idea. Which leads me to the question of your rationale to upgrade?
If $400-600 is worth turning that warning light off then spend it. That light truly doesn't bother me. I've spent less than that to do the conversion. Then to double it up to turn off the Warning light just doesn't sound that pleasing to me. You can try a load resistor in-line.
The LED tails upgrades the look of the REAR. Meaning it looks like model year 2006 to 2010 (Looking from the rear).
You will have to black out the bulb so you do not see the annoying red light indicating you have a burned rear tail light.
Other than the cost of the tails, it is plug and play.
