Default Brighter or digital speedometer for 2002 SC 430

My sc 430 2002's speedometer is very hard to read in the daytime. I have turned it all the way up and that doesn't help. The only digital ones I have seen is the one that reflects in the front window which cuts out a lot vision. I would rather fix the existing speedometer if I could. Is there some way to replace the bulb? When the sun is straight on there is just a black hole.

Here is what the Dash PCB looks like. I've superimposed the dial positions to help you visualise things. It isn't a single bulb, it's a series of surface mount LED's. EG the main Speedo has two just above & below the needle pivot point.

Yes, you can replace them by desoldering the old ones and putting new bigger/brighter ones on if you are confident with a soldering iron.

I have half a mind to do this myself with WS2812 LED's, that way I can change the brightness and colour.

Part My Ride has used panels for less than $80 if you want to experiment or modify another one so that the swap out just takes minutes. The only problem would likely be that the odometer would have to updated to match that of your current mileage.

The speedometer LED's in my '08 IS250 burned out. It turns out it is a pretty common problem. The folks in the IS section recommended taninautoelectronix.com . I sent in my cluster and in less than a week I had it back with the lights changed from the traditional white to the more modern blue.

Looking at their website, they don't mention SC gen 2's, BUT if you contact them, they still maybe able to help you.

If anyone follows this thread and takes on removing the instrument cluster to change to LED's, a DIY with pics would be awesome! I would love to change the LED's to brighter white but don't have the expertise to follow suite. I'd just remove the cluster and send it in to anyone willing to change the LED's (open offer to any members that have completed it :-) Thanks in advance.

I completely agree with Shawn. I had my LEDs changed to blue (03 SC) from a small company in Texas but it still isn't
Any brighter. I will do anything to get a brighter cluster. If anyone knows of anyone please post

I used a company called PI Clusters in Texas. They said that's the brightest they could do. On the UTube video it looks brighter than it really is. Again, night driving isn't a problem but during the day you can't see a thing.

The 430 clusters already have LED's so there's not much you can reasonably do. It's a poor design.
