Default What would you do??

Hi all,

I may have the opportunity to trade in my 2002 SC for a 2003 SC, for my car and $7000. My 02 has 10K miles. One of the reasons I am considering this is because I am very unhappy with the ecru interior.

But, let's assume I can live with that. I think that $7000 to drive the car for 10 months and 10K miles, is pretty cheap. It is almost a wash against depreciation. If you told me I would pay $700 a month and get a new SC every year, I would jump at it. I can pay the $7K for depreciation now or pay it in a couple of years when I trade/sell it. I guess after 4 years the rate of depr. will go down.

I think I would get silver/saddle or silver/black.

O.k. , your turn, tell me what I am missing.

Thanks

TjZ

For those that usually don't keep the cars much longer than 2 years, which is not unusual for toys like a SC430, I'd say go for it. From what I've read in this board, $7,000 seems like a good trade.
What is "worth it" varies for diffferent people. Some people would never buy a brand new car even if they can afford it. They'd pick up a 2-3 year old car that drives like new, but with the first owner taken the brunt of the depreciation.

Sounds good... and I'd go for the Silver/Saddle. 8 months/12,000 miles... still lovin' mine!

That trade is a good deal as long as the other party is reputable. If the trade is with a Lexus dealer - no problem. If it's with another dealer or a private party just make sure the dealer is reputable or the other party owns the car free and clear. Your out $7,000 if someone has a lien on the car.

Also, I have been trying to find a silver sc430 with the saddle interior here in california, but am told that combo is a special order on the west coast. Gorgeous combo. Wish I could find it here.

Good Luck

Well,

It looks like I am going to do the deal. My 2002 SC 430 / 10K miles and $7250, for a new 2003 SC 430 Silver/Saddle.

It just seems that $7250 to drive the SC for 10 months and get a new SC is a pretty good deal. I also get to lose the ecru, which looks beautiful when new but looks pretty bad after some time.
