Nice weather so I decided to replace the spark plugs and PCV valve. Went from Denso IK20's to the SK20R11's. The IK20's had 28,000 miles on them. They looked good but are rated "power" plugs with no longevity period stated. Think I read that 30,000 miles was average life for them. The SK20R11's are rated to 100,000 miles, so I should be all set for a long time.

Interesting point on the PVC valve. It has a foam cover over it that will deteriorate and crumble over time due to it's environment. It is there to reduce engine noise ( got to love Lexus! ). I replaced it last year when I replaced all the small engine vacuum hoses.

On a side note, while I was by the valve covers, I checked the valve cover fasteners. It has been mentioned by other forum members that they found oil leaks due to these bolts coming loose. All were a bit loose, some took over a full turn to get properly snug again. Another "Big Thank You" to this forum for alerting everyone to these issues!

good info about the foam and glad you found the valve cover potential problem...they only require about 10ft/lbs and will eventually require replacement because the oil and heat will make them hard and brittle.

Default Fixed my memory seats

Just bought my 2nd sc430 which is a 06. It's mint with 15k miles. The memory seats were not working found what I thought was a dumb fix which actually worked. First you move seat all the way back, then put the back all the way back, then move seat all the way forward, then put seat back all the way forward, and finally put seat all the way back. Then you can adj seat, mirrors etc and press mem and seat and it will beep. This fix is nowhere to be found in the manual but every time you change you battery this has to be done. Sounds crazy but it works!!!!!

Do you mind sharing more details on the price you paid and history of the car? Color? Photos? Thanks!

Rick
I paid $24,500 the car is very clean color red with black interior, the engine compartment is cleaner than any new lexus in the showroom 15,500 miles. Not a scratch or blemish on the car. It was owned by an 80+ couple he was a car builder who just sold his 1932 ford for $110k. saw a picture it was sweet. The poor guy is sick with the big "C". They had a new RX350 as well. I also, currently, own 4 Lexus, 2017 RX350, 2006 SC430, 2004 LS430, and 2002 RX300. I bought all new except for the SC430, these cars are great no problems. Along with the RX300 I bought a 2002 SC430 which I traded in when I bought the LS430. As you can tell I love these cars..... It is currently raining out so no pic's avail.

Tom, Thanks for the details. You got an AMAZING deal on your SC! I'm also a hard-core Lexus enthusiast, and I've owned 4 SC430s, an LS460, an IS350C, and an LS600hL -- these are great cars that can't be beat for reliability and overall refinement.

I paid $26K for my 2006 with 17K miles (last year). Mine was similarly clean, and was also owned by an elderly couple who rarely drove the car. I plan to keep mine indefinitely (nothing out there to compare, in my mind).

i found an update on eBay for $40, but to be honest, I always use the Waze app on my phone. More accurate, easier to use and has real world road situations...i.e. Traffic, accidents, police etc.

Default SC Infatuation!

I also am on my second SC 430. My first I bought in 2008. It was at 2001, White gold with Ecru. I bought it with 24k miles and paid $26k for it. It was in showroom condition and at the time, it was hard to find one for less than $30k. Fell in love with it, but when the 2010s came out, I became infatuated with all the new toys that the other model years did not have. It took me two years, but in 2014 I found a 2010 red/camel with 27k miles and paid $39k which was a decent price at the time. No regrets on either buy and I sold my '02 for $22k which meant it only cost me $4k to own it for 6 years and cost me $17k to go up 8 years. Also the 2010 was still covered by the factory warranty so I was able to get an extended warranty until 2020. I'm still infatuated with it and live in southern California where it can be top-down year round.
