Default Climate Control LCD losing number's sections

So the climate control on my 2002 430 is starting to loose sections of the numbers.

Not a bunch but I fear that it is just a matter of time before they all go away.

I assume, not being a LCD engineer, that there really isn't much that can be done to fix my existing LCD but I thought I would ask the group hoping for a resolution other than replacing the LCD.

Has anyone else noticed this problem or am I one of the lucky few?

Thanks

There was a thread on this exact issue in the last month. The consensus seemed to be that while repair was technically feasible for the electronic savvy, a used unit on eBay was the easiest option. The actual swap in/swap out is pretty simple and a 20 minute project tops (including 10 minutes for a beer afterwards).

Yep, I have had the unit pulled and in my hand at least once but there doesn't seem to be any of these on eBay... maybe that they don't fail much.

I was unable to find that thread when I searched but now I will try again.

Thanks

Mister Blister is right -- that's an insane price.

One of the best features of eBay is "completed listings." It shows listings that have closed and if there has been a successful sale, the price is in green (no sale, price is in red). This tells you the true market price.

There have been just under half a dozen recent successful completed listings for the climate control. The market price seems to be about $215, give or take $15 bucks.

Thanks for all of the responses... I guess I didn't find them on eBay since I was using Climate and not Temperature in my search..

I never did find the thread on CL but again I didn't try temperature.

Lexus parts are flipping expensive. However, if you are considering paying for a replacement why not pop it open and try to fix it? I was inside of mine already, and the LCD is attached with a little flex cable that is basically glued to the board. The glue fails and some of the lines lose contact.

Just clean it and re-glue it back down.

Worst case - you break it completely and need to buy another one anyway.

Just my $.02

I think I could make a killing by buying the broken electronics in these, fixing them and then selling them. Geez!

I repaired my LCD for a Lexus Ls 400 1994. It took 2 hours of soldering and a $40 part on line. Find a find who has good soldering skills.

Default Climate Control LCD replacement

I have found a replacement for my 2002 SC430 climate control that is losing number section but the leather at the top of the control is saddle color and my interior is Ecru. Does anyone know if the leather strip is interchangeable?

Yes. Two screws on the side at the top will remove the plastic piece with the leather trim. It also has a couple of plastic clips, but they just pop out. Very easy to swap.

Are you interested in selling your old one for a reasonable price?

Thanks for quick response. Yes, will sell existing unit. Paying $425.00 for replacement will sell mine for $125.00.

Thank you for the response. That's quite a bit more than I would be willing to pay for a defective one. You might get some hits for it on eBay though. BTW, if you keep your eyes peeled, you will likely be able to find a working one on eBay for around $200. I just paid that to replace mine. Just have to keep watching. I set up a search notification.

When you get the part, if you need any help figuring out how to swap the leather piece, just let me know. I'm sure it will be obvious to you, though.
