Does your top go down in drive ?

Default Does your top go down in drive ?

I thought my top used to go down in drive when I was at 0mph, but recently it only goes down when the car is in park. Maybe my memory is just bad but does everyone's sc430 top go down in park only ? Or can you also drop the top when you are in drive at 0mph? Maybe it never could drop the top in drive at 0mph and my mind is playing tricks on me!

I can drop mine while in drive and also while less than 5mph. I usually don't like to be in motion at all and on the most level area I can find on the fly. Never had to shift to park per se to drop the top. Sorry.

On my 07 and 08 the top could be either dropped or raised while in drive and sitting at long red lights.

The top on my 07 operates, both up and down in drive.

Yes my 06 will open and close in drive and in motion but it has to be very slow motion.

Like Shawn said, I believe that the operative speed is approximately 5 mph. Above that, the safety circuits kick in and stop all top action. I close mine all the time while driving into the garage. (Of course, I was real careful the first time I tried it to ensure that it wouldn't hit the garage door at its apex.)

Does anyone know where the safety circuit is and maybe how to dissable it or at least make the roof function work at a little higher speed?

Rollaboy,
Looking at the Roof Control circuit diagram, I was hoping to find a simple VSS ( Vehicle Speed Sensor signal ) that many vehicles produce as an input to the Sliding Roof Control ECU. No luck. The speedometer signal leaves the Combination Meter as an MPX signal and it does not go directly to the Sliding Roof Control ECU. As an MPX signal it probably supplies more than just VSS info to the Sliding Roof Control ECU.

Sorry to say, but I don't think it's a great idea to bypass that sensor. If you're driving and catch some wind in the top as it's folding, I can see it really messing up the gears that control the top. That could result in a costly repair. Plus, you might just sail off like a kite....

FlopToo is it possible you can dig a little deaper? Sounds like you know what you are talking about. I have also thought about concacting Steve that made the luxlink. Maybe he knows a fix.

Its not like i wanna control it on the freeway, but 10-15 mph would be fine i think and other cars can do that. Maybe its another construction but i'm willing to take the chance.

Its nice when you are at a stopsign and activating the roof but the its green and the other vehicles behind you are getting mad for not moving. And it looks cool 8-)
