Vinyl Cracks
I was originally happy with the work Lexus did to get rid of the rattling noise I had whenever the door to the radio was down. They removed and re-installed the radio and added some insulation. The day after the install I noticed some tiny "dirt lines" on both sides of the radio on the "vinyl" that covers the entire console. Figured I would clean them off when the weather turned nice. The "dirt" was right on the bend of the vinyl where it disappears into the sides of the radio.
Now that the sun is back out I was getting ready to clean these dirt lines off when I noticed they are actually tiny cracks in the vinyl. I am now set up for a session wiht the Lexus "vinyl repair man" tomorrow.
Has anyone seen anything like this? Any thoughts on repairing this material which I am calling vinyl? I guess I let them try and then if it does not look right get them to replace entire console.

I dealt with one of these guys when someone ripped a hole in the part of the vinyl in my SC400. The guy did a good job but I had to go back to Lexus several times and have him do it again because it the colour would not stay the same after a few months, my bet its that the sun had a more pronoucned effect and caused it to fade more than the other material. I think they mix up a paste like substance and then apply it..
Thanks.
I'll wait to see what they say tomorrow. And if it does not come out right, I can always push for a replacement console. The reason I hesitiate is that once they remove and replace that much territory, there is no telling what else will pop up.

Took the car to Lexus this am. Service advisor said must be sharp edges on back of radio that hit vinyl when radio re-installed. He did not want to repair the console. Said it would be better to replace it. Part is now on order
