Default Ham Radio placement / install

Any ham radio guys on here? Trying to figure out the best way to mount my 2 meter radio so the driver can see/use the controls. This is on a 2002 es300. The radio is an Icom 2100h , about 3lbs, 2 inches deep, 5 inches wide. I don't really want to drill it into the plastic on the transmission hump. Looking for other ways to mount it.

Also, where the best place to run power from the cabin to the battery?

Anyone have pics of an installed ham radio?

I took the easy way out and bought a radio (Kenwood) that has a remote control head. That obviously gives you a lot more options for mounting, and power is readily accessible in the trunk.

I know that you would prefer to go with the radio that you already own, but you may not find a mounting position for it that you are happy with.

That is a good radio. I had that radio couple years ago. Anyhow, u will probably need to drill into the dash because there's no room for the rig to be in.

You use these rigs to talk to other people on the radio (repeaters mainly). Some radios have a wide receive so yeah you can listen to the police or anything out there.

when you say talk to people, that means you have to know what channel they are on right? for example a group of friends going on a road trip? then why not just use a walkie talkie?

Default Ham radio

Yes, it does allow you to listen to most police frequencies in the car, and legally. And yes, you can talk to others. the best thing about ham radio that is different is that you can talk to peoeple all over. Tonight I was talking to someone in Athens Greece from the car, a few nights ago chatting with someone in New Zealand. It's a bit more reach that family radios. check out the info on www.arrl.net.
